13/03/2026: As part of the restaurant's festive events, the menu item at Kastelberg was described as: "Celery ravioli with mushroom duxelles, finely shredded smoked eel in a vibrant ginger broth." The dish I received contained only two slices of celery sandwiched between other vegetables. When I asked where the shredded eel was, I was bluntly told that it was cooked in the broth. In that case, the more accurate description would be "eel-infused broth," not "shredded eel in broth." The description clearly implies the presence of fish on the plate. No compensation or alternative was offered, leaving a distinct impression of false advertising and a misleading description of the final product. It's a shame, because the main course was decent, and the average dessert resembled a piece of mass-produced fruit mousse cake. Edible, but nothing special; I didn't detect the promised cardamom flavor. Overall, I was disappointed by this restaurant for the first time.

29/06/2026: I stopped by this evening 5 minutes before closing time, and despite that, I received a very warm welcome. I thank the team for their professionalism, and the products are very good: breads and pastries.

21/06/2026: An absolute disaster from start to finish – Avoid at all costs! I was very disappointed with our experience. First, before going to the restaurant, we called ahead and they said it was à la carte, but once we arrived, they told us there were two set menus to choose from, not à la carte. Then, customers who arrived after us were served before us. We received the appetizer toasts before our drink order was even taken. As a result, the toasts were cold when the drinks finally arrived. Next, when we went to order the meat, we were informed that there wasn't enough for our table of six, and we had to choose something else. Finally, the meat wasn't cooked as requested: I had asked for it medium-rare, but it was served rare. This accumulation of problems made our meal disappointing.

Far removed from fleeting trends, Bénédicte Vogel, the third generation of this Strasbourg family business, will always welcome you with a smile, as will her team. They offer pastries, brioches, and sweet buns for breakfast, desserts including the famous Bourbon (chocolate crème brûlée), as well as fruit-based options depending on the season, and savory treats for your aperitifs, such as their renowned kougelhopf with bacon. And for chocolate lovers, their iconic Easter bunnies are a must-try (they even have white chocolate ones for those who prefer them).

Special mention goes to the perfectly cooked asparagus and the delectable smoked salmon accompaniment. Pleasant service and a warm atmosphere make this a restaurant I highly recommend! 🍽️😊

16/05/2026: I'd been wanting to try the cake for ages, like ages, but every time I went there it was sold out. But I hadn't given up hope 😂 And this time I was lucky enough to taste it, and I don't regret the wait at all 😅 It's absolutely delicious. A bit pricey for a cake, but you're mostly buying the name, and the flavors were definitely there.

19/07/2026: A disastrous evening from start to finish. We drove all the way from Bischheim to try your restaurant and have a nice evening. Unfortunately, we have never experienced such disorganized service. Upon arrival, our table number was changed mid-service, written directly on the paper tablecloth. As a result, the servers didn't know where the orders were going all evening. The aperitif began with a waitress spilling a large Picon all over the table and on our friend's dress. We helped her clean it up, changed tables, and despite this, my partner didn't even get his aperitif back. We had to ask for it again. I ordered a Virgin Hugo for €7.90. They offered to add blueberry. I ended up with a glass half the size of everyone else's cocktails, containing just a little blueberry and a slice of watermelon… and was ultimately charged €11. Something's not right here. We then ordered a one-liter carafe of Auxerrois wine. An already opened bottle arrived at the table. When we pointed out that this wasn't what we had ordered, we were told that you didn't actually serve one-liter carafes. So we accepted the bottle. However, when the bill arrived, we discovered that we were being charged for a liter. Again, no convincing explanation was given. I asked if the ice cream served with dessert was made with pasteurized milk. A waiter's response will remain etched in my memory: "At worst, just remove the scoop of ice cream." When discussing the health of a pregnant woman, this kind of remark is completely inappropriate. The worst part was yet to come. We calmly explained that, given all the incidents that evening, a gesture of goodwill would be appreciated. On a bill of €166, we were given… €3. But it wasn't even the amount that shocked us: it was the attitude. No sincere apology, no interest in our experience, no attempt to reconsider. Finally, when I tried to pay with holiday vouchers, a waitress and the owner's son responded with incredible condescension: "It's one voucher per person," "That's how it is here," and "It's been like this for 35 years." At no point did we question your rule; we simply weren't aware of it. There's a huge difference between enforcing a rule and speaking to customers with disdain. The food was decent, but a restaurant isn't just about what's on the plate. The welcome, professionalism, and respect for the customer are integral parts of the experience. That evening, we felt like customers whose only aim was to collect the bill, regardless of anything else. We will not return and will not recommend this establishment.
