01/10/2026: It had been so long since we'd been back to Café Le Français in Surgères, so what a pleasure it was to rediscover this place! A truly lovely welcome, a super friendly team, and top-notch service. We immediately felt at home 😊 We had Spritz 🍹 and a delicious, generously filled charcuterie and cheese board with great bread 🧀🥖. Everything was simple, delicious, and welcoming, with genuinely kind and smiling staff. We had a wonderful time and will definitely be back! ❤️

It's perfect, with a vintage atmosphere, the cars, the accordion player outside the door... Superb... The ribeye steak is delicious, and the steak tartare is too... The welcome was warm, the dishes were delicious (homemade, which is rare these days), generous portions, and prepared with high-quality ingredients. Everyone loved it! 21/06/2026: We ate at this small restaurant, which had a beautiful and tastefully decorated interior. We received a very warm welcome from the staff. We ordered the €38 set menu per person (starter, main course, cheese, dessert). The cuisine was refined, and we were particularly impressed by the sausage terrine. The flavor was excellent, and the portions were very generous. The only slight drawback was that the dishes were a little lukewarm. We recommend stopping by for a meal when you're in La Rochelle.

20/06/2026: We came for lunch today and had a wonderful time. Upon arrival, we mentioned that I was gluten-free. The set menu (starter, main course, dessert) was adapted to my dietary restrictions at no extra charge, and always with a smile, which was much appreciated. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal from start to finish. The dishes were excellent, the service was quick and attentive, and the entire team was very friendly and welcoming. A truly great place with excellent value for money.

I know that when I choose a particular dish, it will be consistently excellent. In short, I appreciate and enjoy every bite. And the service is wonderful! It's not meant negatively to say that I've found my go-to spot...

17/10/2026: There were a lot of fruit flies during the meal, which was unpleasant. The service was very slow, and the food was okay but nothing special. I didn't think it was good value for money. Also, be aware that the menu online isn't up-to-date.

16/10/2026: Appalling service, disappointing food, and poor value for money! Arriving at 6:45 pm for two people, we were seated next to a table where the staff had clearly just finished eating, without it even being cleared. A great start! We ordered an aperitif, a charcuterie board with melted cheese, our main courses, and two glasses of wine to accompany them. The board was far from exceptional: no spoon for the melted cheese and only one small toasted roll cut in half for two people. Attention to detail seems to be an afterthought! After a 30-minute wait, the main courses finally arrived. The portions were small, and the pasta was undercooked. As for the two glasses of wine we ordered to accompany the dishes, they never arrived. Our aperitif glasses remained on the table, and no one came to check on us or see if everything was alright. We didn't have dessert: we'd lost our appetite. When it came time to pay, they asked us for the dishes and two glasses of wine we never received! We had to point this out ourselves to avoid being charged. No apology, no consideration whatsoever: the waiter seemed completely indifferent and left, leaving us with his colleague. In short: deplorable service, mediocre food, and a bill that could have included drinks we never received if we hadn't been vigilant! A restaurant isn't just about bringing plates of food; it's also about knowing how to welcome, serve, and respect its customers. Here, everything seems to need improvement. A very disappointing experience. We won't be returning and we do not recommend this place.

11/10/2026: A very bad experience. The service was completely disorganized, with orders served at different times and several incomplete. Some dishes were served very late, which made the meal unpleasant. On top of that, the servers were absolutely unfriendly, which only made matters worse. You pay a certain price expecting a minimum level of quality, professionalism, and service, but unfortunately, none of that was present. The value for money is truly disappointing. I do not recommend this restaurant and I will not be returning.

27/09/2026: Bakery, pastry shop, and tea room on the market square, in a lovely village setting with many shops nearby. The pastries are very good, and it's pleasant to enjoy the gentle atmosphere on the terrace.

06/06/2026: The place itself is nice. The table service was very disappointing because you have to finish eating before you've even started 😤😠😡. It was really annoying, I'm not sure I'll go back.

19/04/2026: We visited a real French cabaret and were very satisfied. In order: an old manor (probably a former winery), with a large hall. Parking on site. Clean and tidy. Interesting and tasty cuisine, great service, everything is fast, the service is excellent. The show itself is something incredible! I didn't even think that 4 hours would fly by in one breath! Everything is thought out and well organized, the show itself is interesting and diverse. The pearl, in my opinion, is the can-can - real, complete, with all the details. Interesting circus acts, beautiful chansonniers, wonderful girls in dances. Everything is real, without pathos. We recommend!

29/08/2026: Simply the best restaurant we ate at all week (and that's saying something!). The food was absolutely flawless, with a special mention for the catch of the day and the desserts. The terrace is lovely, away from the crowds, and the service was very friendly (especially the ladies)! Truly amazing!! We would have loved to come back to see how consistent it was, but our trip was coming to an end. We'll be back next year! Go for it! ⚡️
