26/04/2026: A very warm welcome, delicious home-style cooking (Bayonne ham, homemade croquettes and baby squid, as well as a delicious chocolate dessert). A small, unassuming restaurant that's well worth a visit.
19/03/2026: Worst beer I've ever drunk in my life. The chef kicked me out of the restaurant because I made a little joke. I absolutely do not recommend it. I also ordered food, and it tasted like they'd made a mess of it, it was so disgusting. I would never recommend this place to any of the Pierre Bars I've ever been to.

08/04/2026: The place is probably nice, if you're a local, but if you're just passing through, double-check the prices they quote you for your drinks, or you risk paying a tip you didn't agree to. It's a shame they treat tourists like they're naive. I can still count, even as a tourist. Next time, I'll go somewhere else!

30/03/2026: Lunch on a weekday. The place is pleasant with its veranda, the small room with the bar, and a view of another large room at the back. A young woman greeted us with a smile. After watching her for a few minutes, I realized she was running everything single-handedly. Many regulars who work in the area were there, trying to make her job a little easier. We chose the set menu for €18. There were four starters to choose from, two main courses (one meat and one fish), and five or six dessert options. The ingredients seemed fresh and well-prepared. The desserts were probably not homemade, but they were good. Good value for money, and a big thank you to this young woman who provided efficient, quick, and friendly service.
21/01/2026: A friendly welcome and an appetizing set menu. It would be nice if the dishes were served a little hotter... The service is quite fast, which is appreciated by people who work in the area.

07/03/2026: Small restaurant in the heart of the countryside very cozy countryside setting with a fireplace... the food was excellent and the welcome was very warm... I highly recommend it and we'll definitely be back with family or friends... the place is well worth the detour
21/01/2026: Very disappointed, it was very cold in the dining room. We suggested to the waitress that she light the fire in the fireplace, but received no response. The daily special wasn't great, and as for dessert, the blueberry tart was frozen!

31/03/2026: We went during Easter week with a two-year-old. They treated us wonderfully. The food was very good and the place was lovely. I highly recommend it. The price was very reasonable.
31/03/2026: The lunch menu was very good without compromising on quality, proving it's possible. I had the lamb shank with mashed potatoes, and it was delicious! The presentation, seasoning, cooking, and flavors were all perfectly balanced. In short, excellent value for money. The service team was well-trained, efficient, and very friendly. As for the kitchen team, they were fantastic, efficient, and always served with a smile. Thank you for a wonderful experience.

11/11/2025: I came on September 28th and was unfortunately very disappointed not to find the former owner, Gildas, there. The food was nothing like it used to be. For a starter, the warm goat cheese should be at least a small Crotin or Rocamadour, but instead it was just a piece of goat cheese from a cheap log on three small pieces of bread. The main course, the duck confit, was just a leg straight out of a can, tasteless and of course without any sauce. Perhaps it was too complicated to prepare. And if only the fries were homemade, not just delivered by a supplier. Oh, and I almost forgot, there was a spider in the salad! Seriously, when you own such an establishment, especially one facing La Rhune mountain, it's a shame. Sir, I am contacting you again following your disingenuous response. Living 700 kilometers away, I had no way of knowing that Gildas had recently sold the business, so I had no preconceived notions. Regarding the sauce that was supposed to accompany the duck confit ("duck leg"), given the wide selection in your response, it would have been more sensible to offer it when ordering, not during the service I requested. The response I received was, "No sauce available, but we can prepare some in 10 to 15 minutes"—a joke! And of course, if I follow your reasoning, I should avoid waiting 10 to 15 minutes hoping for a pat of butter to accompany the country ham and cheese, which would have enhanced the presentation. I should have informed the cow, the farmer, and the dairy of my arrival. No, sir, I'm not grumbling in a corner. I did make my concerns known at the checkout, and the response I received was, "I cannot give you a satisfactory answer as I am not the chef." And as it seems to me that you Gildas, please don't use these photos on your website. Sir, when you practice one of the most beautiful professions in the world, you live by its motto. Perfection doesn't exist, you can always do better, there are weaknesses, days when things don't go well, simple cooking is the most complicated thing there is. Joël Rebuchon

20/11/2025: I'm giving one star for the staff's smiles. To begin with, there was no heating; we were told it would warm up with the crowds. No Beaujolais Nouveau was offered on its release day. There was no choice of menu; it was a set menu for workers, even though the website makes no mention of this and there's a nice menu with good ingredients. We managed to get the duck breast with honey sauce listed on the menu, but it didn't have the sauce. According to them, we should have specified when ordering that we wanted it. Apparently, according to the owner, this restaurant will close and reopen in January. It's best to wait for the reopening before going.
19/10/2025: A truly delightful experience, from the setting and the warm welcome to the delicious food – excellent value for money. The staff were incredibly friendly, and they gave my little dog an exceptional welcome. Being from the area, I hadn't been before, but now I'm definitely going back. Thank you so much.

We weren't supposed to touch the microphone, even though no one had said anything about it beforehand... the owner jumped on us, yelling... wow, it was completely outrageous. He even tried to hit my colleague... I'll never go back, not even for a group meal.

27/11/2025: Excellent in every way. Several visits over several years and the quality of service is always top-notch. Not to be missed.
23/11/2025: Unbeatable location in Place Louis XIV. We went with high expectations and the team at La Txalupa delivered. We started with a textbook Foie Gras: perfect texture and intense flavor. But the undisputed star is the Sole Plantxa (Sole). At €38 a dish, you expect quality, and they certainly delivered; fresh product, treated with absolute respect. Honorable mention to the wine (Gascogne Big Blc), a fantastic discovery for €22 that pairs beautifully with the fish. The service was surprisingly attentive and efficient for a tourist spot. The only downside: €5 for half a liter of Vittel water seems like highway robbery, but we forgive them for the final Gateau Basque. Recommended if you want quality and don't mind the price.
