Everything was fresh, from the piping hot miso soup to the perfectly prepared sushi. I particularly appreciated the quality of the fish slices, which were melt-in-your-mouth tender and flavorful. It's a place where you feel comfortable and where the food is truly excellent. We will definitely be back for our next lunch break. Thank you for this delicious meal.

25/07/2026: We're regulars at this restaurant; for over seven or eight years we've been coming for lunch on weekdays to enjoy the set menus, which include four courses (sushi, a hot dish like chicken with mushrooms or caramel pork, sashimi, and kebabs) plus a drink, miso soup, salad, and rice, all for exceptional value (around 17 euros). The lady and gentleman who run this small, family-run restaurant are absolutely lovely.

05/09/2026: I want to share a particularly unpleasant experience we had at this establishment, which makes you wonder if they might be slightly racist. We came as a couple, and from the moment we arrived, we were met with an extremely cold, unpleasant, and, above all, very aggressive welcome. We were treated very badly, to the point where we immediately wondered what could possibly justify such an attitude towards us. At no point were we simply asked if we wanted to eat in or take away. The service was rushed, with no consideration whatsoever for us as customers. We felt like we were being treated more as people to be wary of than as customers who had come simply to enjoy themselves and have a good time. The payment process was particularly shocking. We were rushed to pay in a way that made us feel as if they were afraid we would leave without paying, as if our presence in the establishment was suspicious. The approach was extremely insistent, aggressive, and uncomfortable. What bothered us most was the overall attitude towards us. We felt hostility, aggression, and a complete lack of respect. We came to a Japanese restaurant, like any other customer, and we certainly didn't expect to be received in this way. This experience deeply disappointed and made us feel very uncomfortable. A restaurant should be a place where you leave wondering why you were treated with such suspicion and aggression. Period. I do not recommend this establishment.

We were at L’Alcôve a few days ago. I wasn't particularly satisfied, nor was I extremely dissatisfied; it was more satisfactory. First, the positives: The staff are very motivated and strike me as professional and determined. They were very courteous and friendly at reception, which flattered us. We had made a reservation, so I can't comment on walk-ins, but we were allowed to choose our own table, meaning it was incredibly quiet. My subjective opinion regarding the ambiance is more "meh" than "wow." Of course, it's important to remember that the space is quite small, making it difficult to find large tables and plenty of legroom. There's an outdoor terrace and a few tables inside. The tables are rather narrow, which makes them unsuitable for larger orders, as you have to spread soy sauce and glasses onto the neighboring table. Unfortunately, we were seated in a puddle that had seeped from the air conditioning unit (inside) all the way to the terrace. The floor in the men's restroom is a bit crumbly, but the rest of the bathroom is functional. Now for the food. We ordered a little bit of everything and paid around €56 for our entire visit (excluding drinks, as water was sufficient that evening), which is relatively expensive compared to other restaurants. We had to wait a while, but the fried sushi was still very warm and everything tasted fresh. The scampi rolls were the best of all. Overall, though, the sushi didn't impress us, as the flavors weren't particularly outstanding. The wasabi (as is unfortunately the case in many restaurants) was just a mixture, very crumbly, and made from a powder substitute. It doesn't taste like wasabi, nor is it spicy, and they should really offer a better option to ensure satisfaction. We might have to come back to try more of the menu, but as it stands, it's neither bad nor good – a bit pricey for what you ultimately get. This is, of course, based on my subjective experience, and I'd like to commend the friendly staff once again for their hospitality. 😌

18/08/2026: I went to this restaurant twice. The first time was for lunch in November 2025, and I really enjoyed it. Generally speaking, the fish is good and fresh, and the sushi is of good quality. Many Japanese people frequent this restaurant, which I imagine speaks to the chef's expertise. I was more ambivalent about my second visit, an evening in August 2026, when I wanted to introduce my partner to the restaurant. We waited about 40 minutes after ordering. Unfortunately, the set menu portions were ridiculously small and devoured in 5 minutes. At €40 per menu, we were disappointed and ate again when we got home. So I'm not surprised that other reviews mention it.

30/08/2026: A pleasant Japanese dinner at Toyama in Paris. We received a complimentary drink, which was a lovely touch. The sashimi set and sushi set both came in generous portions and were very reasonably priced. Each set also came with a bowl of plain rice and a tasty mushroom miso soup, making it quite a satisfying meal. Overall, not bad at all for a Japanese restaurant in Paris. Good value, decent portions, and friendly service. I’d definitely consider coming back on my next business trip.

But the fact that the cashier deliberately added an extra charge to the bill was really uncool. She probably thought we wouldn't notice, but we did. So, it left us with a bad impression of the restaurant.
