06/05/2026: Superb cuisine, always perfectly executed...I absolutely love it! It had been so long since I'd been back...what a waste of time ;) For me, one of the best restaurants in Pau.

25/04/2026: My review has changed slightly since it doesn't directly concern the restaurant on Rue Valéry Meunier, but rather the fact that they came to La Forge Moderne last night. They offered several small dishes for €6, which were very varied and suitable for all dietary needs. These dishes were very good; I tried two: the ravioli and the tart. The service was quick; I think everything was already prepared or nearly so. My friend ordered the taloa and the chocolate cake, which also looked delicious. Furthermore, I found the restaurant owners to be very friendly. :) It would be great if you came back!

12/08/2026: A lovely, very typical Basque restaurant under the plane trees, with the river flowing right next to it on the road to Dantxaria. I recommend stopping at this restaurant rather than eating up there.

10/08/2026: What a disappointment... As regulars at Michelin-starred restaurants, we had come to dine for a special occasion at this establishment, which is supposed to have elegant, courteous, and discreet staff, worthy of a four-star rating. To our surprise, one of the waitresses verbally attacked her colleague in front of us with great condescension, even though the latter had been very pleasant to us. She criticized our table, saying it would require her to vacuum (aren't waiters supposed to clean after service?! This reaction made us a little worried about hygiene...). We were left feeling very uncomfortable by this altercation and the atmosphere, which was more like a cheap pub. The table next to us felt the same way. According to our neighbors, who are regulars, this woman has a reputation for being very temperamental, rude, and always speaking very loudly. Despite the very good food (a point in favor of the cuisine), we will not be returning.

04/08/2026: La Basse Cour: The food is good... when it actually arrives Dinner at the hotel restaurant, La Basse Cour. Verdict in two parts: the food on one hand, the service on the other. The service, let's talk about it: it's a whole other story. Cold and rigid, a Lenten atmosphere. We arrive, are seated on the terrace at our request because it's pleasant on this summer afternoon, and we sit down. And we wait. Five minutes, then ten, then fifteen. Time seems to stand still. Other customers arrive after us, and presto, they're served. We watch the glasses and plates go by, amazed. We even checked in the reflection of the window: no, we weren't invisible. So we finally mention it; the wait was becoming unbearable. Result: we're politely told off. So we wait, stoic, while orders from our neighbors are being served right under our noses. It has to be said that only one server takes orders for the entire dining room and terrace. The team is clearly understaffed, and it shows. It's a shame, because the food is good, really. The dishes come out quickly, but not all at the same time. So we take turns nibbling, one person eating while another waits. Perhaps that's what the barnyard mentality is all about, after all. In short: after a long day at work, opt for Deliveroo. If you have the time, or you're with family, arm yourself with patience: it's still pretty good.

13/08/2026: A great option for lunch, delicious food, very friendly staff, and a pleasant atmosphere. We arrived a little late, but they still served us the same amount of food. I would definitely go back.

A very warm and friendly welcome, a beautiful setting with a wine cellar atmosphere, impeccable and very friendly service, and a surprising menu featuring fresh, seasonal produce, expertly prepared by a chef who loves what he does and comes to check on the results at your table! Add to that an immense passion for wine, with an exceptional wine list, and you're guaranteed a truly delightful experience that your taste buds will remember... 06/06/2026: We arrived at 2 pm. There were two of us, and we had a wonderful time. The meal was incredible, from the appetizer to the dessert. Everything was delicious. I highly recommend it. It's rare to find a restaurant of this caliber with such good value for money. A truly great find!

20/06/2026: Visiting my father, even if it's just for two days, is a chance for me to reconnect with a must-try: Jacob Bakery. It's become a tradition. I can't imagine waking up without my pain au chocolat or pain aux raisins from Jacob. As for the bread, I can't find better anywhere. My go-to loaves are the Orthezienne and the Graine, two breads I always enjoy because their quality and flavor are exceptional. Even on vacation, I get up at 7:30 a.m. to make sure I have the chance to leave with a loaf fresh from the oven, still warm, fresh, and perfectly crusty. And what a pleasure it is to sometimes have to wait a few moments before being served! It gives us time to admire all the delicious treats in the window and to drool over your magnificent pastries. I've been a loyal customer since you opened, and I sincerely hope you'll be here for many years to come. The entire team does a remarkable job, which is reflected in the quality of your products, but also in the pleasure of visiting your establishment. My vacation certainly wouldn't be quite the same without this breakfast that I eagerly anticipate. Thank you to the whole team for your expertise, passion, and dedication.

Excellent set menu, great value for money at €25 for a starter/main course/cheese or dessert. The cooking was perfect and the seasoning was well-balanced, with a special mention for the fish. The desserts weren't too sweet, which is rare these days. Well done, you're proof of honest dining. I highly recommend it.

Someone called this establishment a gem; there were four of us, and we unanimously agree. We're delighted to have discovered XAYA, in the other gem that is Saint-Jean-de-Luz. See you soon!
