11/05/2026: It was perfect. The meat was exceptional, cooked exactly to my liking. I had the hanger steak and parsleyed veal liver combo. It was delicious. The atmosphere was great, just the way everyone likes it. The owner, the staff, and the cooks were all excellent. Go without hesitation; you won't be disappointed. I also had a truly divine homemade tiramisu and a very good St. Nicolas de Bourgueil red wine.

30/05/2026: A pleasant setting with simple and inviting decor. The welcome and service are on par with the food—flawless! Of course, the terrine remains a must-try, and the accompanying bread is excellent. The calf's head is flavorful and generously portioned, the steak tartare (hand-chopped beef) was a big hit, and the duck breast was perfectly cooked. Nothing to complain about, except that we'll be back again and again.

18/06/2026: I've been a loyal customer for years for the hanger steak, but this is the second time I've been treated like an idiot. Last time, I simply informed the owner that it wasn't cooked rare and that the quality had changed. But today, they served me a hanger steak that was "medium," or even "well-done," so I sent it back, specifying that I had ordered it "rare." They brought me an even worse one. The owner told me that the cook didn't want to make another one because it wasn't good enough... That I should just order something else. Lol. The cook is now in charge, and the owner asks me in a condescending tone, "What do you want me to say? Go talk to the cook..." It's not my job to tell the cook that he's not meeting his cooking standards. You've just lost a loyal customer, one who's been with you for years, well before the change of ownership. I've never had this kind of problem with Fred and Laurent. Yours truly, Mr. Pseudo-Owner. REPLY TO THE Pseudo-OWNER FOLLOWING HIS COMMENT ON MY REVIEW: So, if I summarize your very constructive remarks, I'm a pseudo-customer after having eaten at your establishment 50 times, and that day, since I had some time to kill, I supposedly thought: "Hey, I'll go to the espresso bar to say the hanger steak is overcooked..." You went and retrieved the two hanger steaks from the trash (thank you for recycling, you're good for the planet) to eat them, and they were delicious, so I'm being disingenuous. You kept your cooks (except that before, it was Laurent (the former owner) who was in the kitchen). Yes, up until now it was good despite two or three hiccups, but now you've just proven to me that you're a very small-minded boss, much more talkative behind a screen than in front of the customer who tells you about the problems. It's easier to accept compliments than negative feedback. You're the one who's angry about being confronted with your incompetence and your contempt for the customer. As for your team, which you supposedly kept since the takeover, how many servers have jumped ship? I count only one waitress who's still there (good luck to her). Luckily, your partner is there to raise the bar for your mediocrity. Question yourself instead of offering me cooking lessons. You're right, keep hiding behind your counter and let competent people manage the service. Your contempt, your bad faith, and your lack of common sense are only matched by your incompetence. Admittedly, you bought an establishment that before You were doing very well, it's a shame talent can't be bought, given the remarkable drop in business since you took over. For your information, I've been a customer of L'Espresso since 1998... (back when you were still in diapers, so take your moralizing to yourself, young man)... from the opening by Roger, before Laurent and Fred took over and managed to make L'Espresso an institution at Carrefour. I'm not angry at all, just disappointed by your deplorable attitude, but rest assured, there are plenty of other restaurants in Riom where the owners respect their customers, or so-called customers if you prefer. Don't even think about it, reality will catch up with you. It's a shame there isn't a "Becoming a Restaurateur for Dummies" manual. I agree with you on one point: 1 star is ridiculous! It's a shame we can't give zero.

Whether it's for lunch, an afternoon snack of a tasty crepe, or to share their beautiful platters, everything is high quality and prepared with care. The atmosphere is pleasant and the welcome is always warm. A big thank you to Chloé for her impeccable service, her smile, and her kindness, which make every visit even more enjoyable. I highly recommend it! 😊

04/06/2026: While passing through Clermont, a friend and I stumbled upon this unassuming restaurant (a plus, there's a small parking lot), but we had a very good meal (chicken, salad, bulgur, and fries). Everything was delicious, and the staff was very pleasant, offering us a small mushroom gratin and warm bread while we waited. We really appreciated it! I highly recommend this restaurant.

The gnocchi were swimming in their own juices and the bouillabaisse lacked shellfish for the price, and there was no one to advise us on the wines. What a shame for this restaurant!
