04/06/2026: We came to the Basque Country for our honeymoon, as it's where we got engaged. We arrived late in Saint-Jean-de-Luz and went to the first place we saw. We know it's almost impossible to find a bad place to eat in this region anyway. However, we didn't expect this place to completely exceed our expectations. The staff was warm and welcoming from arrival to departure. We ordered a starter and a main course, but we couldn't resist their desserts. Every bite was perfect. The next day, we couldn't stop thinking about Bar Basque. We returned the following night. We were greeted a second time by the staff and then tried the other dishes they had on offer. Again, the food was incredible. I think it might be the best restaurant I've ever eaten at. I highly recommend this place to anyone who wants to experience first-class hospitality and delicious food. Thank you all for being part of our honeymoon. We'll be back!

06/05/2026: A must-visit in Pau. It embodies the true spirit of a bistro: generous portions and impeccable service. Special mention goes to the bavette steak, perfectly prepared from start to finish. The value for money is exceptional (€16 for the set menu of main course and dessert), and you can tell the ingredients are treated with respect. A perfect experience from beginning to end.

15/12/2025: Full little restaurant bar situated at the train station where you can watch the trains wooshhhh by as you are eating a delicious locally sourced meal or an expertly prepared cocktail. A fun experience to take in while visiting Guethary!

09/10/2025: We spent the night of October 8, 2025, at the Benat Hotel in Anglet. A wonderful welcome from the owner, who waited for us even though it was supposed to be closing. The room is small but spotlessly clean, with a small but adequate bathroom, a TV, and a super comfortable bed. The toilet is on the landing, except for a small downside, but for one night, it's not a big deal. A nice and pleasant breakfast. What can I say? A pleasant break in a beautiful location with a super friendly and pleasant owner. Géraldine and Fred from Fleurance, Gers.

09/06/2026: I didn’t really enjoy this place. We had to sit about 20 yards from a bus stop where a bus came every 5 minutes, which wasn't ideal. The staff were okay, though they seemed a little standoffish. The food came way too quickly—it was on the table almost as soon as we ordered, which always concerns me. The meal itself wasn't great either; it was very bland and basic. On the plus side, they played some good music and the atmosphere was nice. We usually like to stay after eating to have a chat, but we left straight after our food as the surroundings weren't the best. 6 out of 10.

09/06/2026: It's at the side of a busy main road, so there is a lot of traffic/ buses stopping etc. However they fit us in on a Friday night which was appreciated. The food was OK, not the best we've had in the area.

28/02/2026: Hello, we chose the €31 set menu with foie gras and chicken in a pot. The foie gras was of poor quality, probably a budget option. As for the chicken in a pot, it wasn't a real chicken in a pot at all, but rather a chicken boiled in a pot of water. It had no flavor and lacked tomato sauce. 🍅... It's a shame that the restaurant Chez Oliver next door is closed, or perhaps the former owners of the Henri IV could show them how to make it properly. Unfortunately, there are very few restaurants left where you can enjoy a good chicken in a pot, and you have to go a bit further from the château. The dessert was satisfactory.
