21/05/2026: Cheval Rouge Restaurant - This was great. We finished visiting Chateau Villandry, and had a 1 hour drive ahead to Saumur. As we headed out of town, we realized it might be nice to eat here before we continue. It was a rainy and blustery day, so let's stop. We were not disappointed. A nice, quiet stop. The food was just what we wanted. Since arriving in France, seems every place is serving "tourist" portions, meaning more than we can eat to the detriment of quality. Cheval Rouge was just the right amount with the wonderful French flavors. Service was quiet and efficient. A good decision to stop here. Try the Lamb stew.

18/05/2026: Old room, hair dryer not working, renovation badly needed. As for the positives - it was clean, the bed was comfortable, and the breakfast was alright.

11/11/2025: Wonderful atmosphere! It's the second time I've eaten here and it's always good. My friends had the fish if the day and my husband and I each had a steak, I wasn't impressed with the cut of steak because it was too thin and steaks should never be thin in my onion. I must point out that the last time I had a steak here it was incredible, so maybe I just ordered the wrong steak this time.

02/05/2026: I'm still enjoying my trout as I post this review. The welcome was truly wonderful, unpretentious yet with all the necessary care. The cuisine is truly top-notch! We savored dishes of exceptional quality and flavor! Honestly, a culinary experience that even made me like herring again. Thank you so much! 21/05/2026: When simplicity leads to success! The place, the welcome, the presentation of the dishes—everything exudes simplicity and generosity! You feel comfortable right away; the portions are generous, the food is delicious, and the price is very reasonable. Special mention for the daily special with three choices. It's easy to see why it's always packed. I'll gladly go back!

24/04/2026: Excellent restaurant. Wonderful, homemade food. Good dessert. Coffee was okay. They don't accept reservations at lunchtime. The dishes arrive very quickly. At lunchtime, it gets quite crowded and a bit chaotic. Despite this, excellent price. I will definitely return! I ordered the cod. Very generous portion, very well cooked, the skin is crispy, and the potatoes are very tasty. For dessert I ordered the pudding, sweet in just the right amount.

17/04/2026: Restaurant closed since February 2026. There was no information about it on Google, their website, or Facebook. We made the trip for nothing. Finally, when we tried to call to find out why no one was there, the person who answered said it was closed...

02/01/2026: A little gem! We wanted to introduce our 12-year-old son to refined and delicious cuisine. The place is very charming, the service impeccable, and the food as beautiful to look at as it is to taste. I highly recommend it.

19/05/2026: We came for lunch. We were greeted by the manager, who, busy at the bar, completely ignored us. We asked her if we could be seated, which visibly annoyed her. A total lack of respect on her part. I've known more pleasant prison guards. We were eventually seated. We ordered aperitifs, a 33cl beer and a spritz. Ten minutes later, our starters arrived, even though we hadn't seen a single aperitif. The starters were served cold. We asked where our aperitifs were four times, and the waitress's response was, "It's not my fault..." But it didn't occur to her to bring us a carafe of water so we wouldn't die of thirst... It took 30 minutes to finish our starters and another 15 minutes for our aperitifs to arrive because I went to complain to the restaurant manager in charge of drinks. I was brushed off a second time. The spritz arrived, and surprise! A glass of crushed ice for €9. Photo attached. What a rip-off!!! Since a franchise took over, it's not the same anymore. We used to be regulars, and that's over. In fact, all the servers who had been there for years are gone, and we wonder why... Run away! We left and asked her how much we owed for her cold appetizers and her €9 glass of ice. And, as usual, she told us to get lost. Change careers, madam, you're not cut out for business!!! We went to eat across the street at Del Arte, thankfully! Smiles, professionalism, and top-notch food with real value for money.

17/05/2026: Everything went very well, the waiter was pleasant, the food was very good, and I gave it 4 stars for the atmosphere because we were the first customers and the only ones in the restaurant. We will definitely come back.

29/05/2026: Tip from Leon Les Clayes: Offer a lunch menu for €12.90 > the waitress directs the customer towards a fish dish that isn't on the menu, even if they ask for a set menu. Charge €30 instead of €12.90.

14/02/2026: We had a magical time! The pizzas were simply delicious: perfectly topped with high-quality ingredients. The risotto… a real winner! Creamy, flavorful, and perfectly seasoned. And the carpaccio was incredibly fresh, melting in your mouth, and subtly aromatic. Everything was refined, generous, and prepared with care. The service was warm, attentive, and professional, which made this evening even more special. Excellent cuisine, flawless from start to finish. We will definitely be back! 23/05/2026: The only downside: the ratings can't go beyond 5 stars. Everything is perfect: the setting, the service (truly impeccable, genuinely French service, with special attention to our four-legged friends), and what can I say about the food?! The chef seems to initiate you into what could be called a culinary fantasy. In short, be sure to book in advance to enjoy this idyllic experience that will transport you far beyond the shores of this lake.
