20/05/2026: We came hoping to enjoy a good meal of quality cuisine and were quite prepared to pay the price for a pleasant experience. Unfortunately, we were all very disappointed. The ribeye steak was completely underseasoned, and the two duck breasts we ordered rare were anything but when they arrived. When the waiter finally noticed our dissatisfaction, we pointed out that the side dishes were still missing. They were only brought to us after we had finished eating. The pasta was bland, the risotto very small, and overall the dishes seemed very basic for the price. In the end, we all wished we had simply ordered burgers. The service was also disappointing. We were a table of seven, and the two women at the table didn't even have time to respond when asked if they wanted coffee: the waiter had already left. We also felt judged because of our age, as if young customers couldn't appreciate good food or be willing to spend money on a truly quality meal. The manager's attitude reinforced this impression, especially when she asked if we wanted to take the pasta home "since we probably had to work early the next day." This remark struck us as inappropriate and condescending. In the end, none of the seven of us felt the experience was worth the price. We won't be returning.

13/05/2026: Everything was in keeping with the setting, at least that day. We were pleasantly surprised by the decor when we entered. It was the last positive point of our lunch. A young, pleasant, smiling waitress seated us, and a young man, equally kind, brought us the menu. The waitress took our order: set menus, glasses of wine, gourmet coffees, and a standard carafe of water. The bread basket arrived, followed by the main courses, then the glasses of wine. No carafe. We asked again, and a third waiter, without a smile, pedantic or pretentious to a fault, brought it to us. The portions were small. The beef was only moderately tender, and the fries were meager. Once we had finished our main courses, we waited for dessert. A fourth waiter with curly hair came to ask us what we wanted. "We ordered desserts right from the start." "Very well, I'll check." 20 minutes later, still nothing! We went to the counter to complain and finally get the rest of our meal. We were surprised that we were there off-season, the restaurant was very empty that day at lunchtime, and the service was lacking. We're worried about the high season! If there even is a high season in Angoulême. To be fair to the staff, this establishment seems to be selective about its clientele. From the moment you arrive until you're seated at your table, management only seems to care about regular customers. It's a shame, the decor led us to expect a lovely experience.

26/02/2026: Simple and authentic cuisine, everything is homemade and you can taste the difference! It's been a long time since I've tasted such flavor. Kudos to the chef for their approach and the quality of their ingredients!

01/06/2026: The seafood platter for sharing was overpriced for what it offered. Gabriel was very pleasant, smiling, and always had a touch of humor; he was very professional. I regret that the chicken with Maroilles cheese is no longer on the menu... moreover, there's a serious lack of choice in the other dishes.

12/04/2026: Quite expensive. They fall short quite a bit in terms of efficiency and quality. They claim a high label, but the breakfast is rather simple; sometimes no yogurt is available... Maybe this is because it was the end of the season, but when charging such high prices, one should expect higher quality. The evening meals, however, were very well prepared. The staff comes across as stressed, which sometimes translates into unfriendliness.

06/04/2026: Our third visit to Chalet Hugo and already booked for next year. Thank you once again to Alex and the team for making our stay so magical. A big thank you to Mr Vito who went above and beyond to assist us in a time of need. I really cannot recommend the Hotel Carlina, the Chalet, its team and its location enough. 14/05/2026: Excellent meal, perfect welcome, and a calm atmosphere. What more could you ask for? Nothing, except to come back as soon as possible!

12/06/2026: The decor is stylish and understated. The large-format painting in the dining room, depicting a cityscape, adds a vibrant touch. The tableware, glasses, and cutlery are of exceptional quality and complement the classic ambiance of the dining room. The service is outstanding. We were served in German with a friendly demeanor, and the staff also spoke English in addition to French. The menu is clearly laid out and was explained in an easy-to-understand manner, complete with suggestions. Towels were provided for cleaning our hands, dropped napkins were replaced, and place settings were cleared and set simultaneously. All of this was done so discreetly, simultaneously for both guests, and always at just the right moment, that we felt constantly cared for and never disturbed. The wine pairings for the carte-sur-table menu offered a diverse range of flavors and were perfectly matched to the dishes. The sommelier truly knows his craft! The eight dishes themselves were sophisticated, appropriately portioned, and harmoniously seasoned. At the same time, they showcased a wide array of ingredients and techniques, providing a constant and pleasant surprise. Highlights included the oyster stuffed with bacon and the vanilla cream served in a sugar sphere. At the beginning and end of the meal, three chocolates were served alongside an amuse-bouche, perfectly complementing the menu. All in all, the visit was a must!

13/04/2026: Absolutely wonderful little brasserie/bistro just down the road from the Centre Place d’Armes in an old building tucked into a newer residential area. Tiny little space filled with antiques wooden tables & a daily chalkboard menu - food was true rustic country cooking - cassoulet, filet de porc with frites & salad - simple but very delicious. Good selection of beers to wash it all down with - Honestly the best meal we had the whole week we were in Valenciennes

18/05/2026: My partner and I had dinner at this restaurant and we were absolutely delighted. It was delicious from start to finish, and the atmosphere was very welcoming. I highly recommend it, and if you love chocolate fondant, go for the chocolate cream filling—it's incredibly delicious! 😋

18/05/2026: What's not to love about Ma Table en Ville. Delicious, fresh and flavoursome meal in a modern setting. The wine list was excellent. The owner and chef is very aimiable engaging with all his guests. Very enjoyable dinner for 3 and a wonderful view from the window.
