05/04/2026: Still as pleasant as ever, lovely atmosphere, attentive staff, excellent wine selection and menu. Drawback: uneven quality of the dishes, some very fine but also... not so much :-( But we'll be back!!

04/04/2026: A fabulous restaurant in every way!! The atmosphere and decor were absolutely top-notch, the staff was perfect, and the food was outstanding! The beef fillet was incredibly tender! I highly recommend it.

03/04/2026: Absolutely delicious and creative food. Unexpected find in a small village. We’ve been traveling for almost 1 month throughout Europe and this was one of our best meals, even better than the Michelin starred places we ate at and less expensive. We loved the Asian influence in our starters but every course was so good.

16/04/2026: This just goes to show you shouldn't hesitate to leave a place where you're poorly received if it leads to a place like this. After being turned away because of the time at an establishment we won't name, what a brilliant idea it was to call the Phoenix Refuge! Despite the late hour, 1:40 pm, we were welcomed. Two very friendly gentlemen greeted and served us warmly. The view from our table was beautiful; there was even a spotting scope available, and the chamois were right there in the peephole! We had a wonderful meal, and even the chef's "goodbye" from his window, with a clearly sincere smile, was a pleasant touch.

10/04/2026: Superb!!! A lovely restaurant in Saint Aubin, excellent dishes, a delightful surprise – we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves! The chef is excellent, a wonderful discovery that makes us want to return!

06/04/2026: I kinda hate gushing about places, however I really liked this place. Amongst all the mid places to eat in the old town area of Aix, this place really stood out. First off, the place has a feel. Old wood, generations of families type of feel. I just kinda leaned into it and let the server (proprietor?) guide me. Went with the "house specialties" of the barigoule d'artichaut and followed up with the Gigotin d'agneau and finished off with the lavender crème brulée. On the beverage side, I started off with a kir and let him guide me through the rest of the dinner with glasses of wine. All excellent.

29/03/2026: woah ! we had the artichoke starter then two mains - the sea bass fillet and lamb cooked for 30 hours on the bone.. flavourful and authentic. such a great rustic and home-y gem of a restaurant. highly recommended !!

07/04/2026: Excellent all-you-can-eat buffet at lunchtime with plenty of choice and a reasonable price. However, don't go in the evening; there's almost nothing left, just the leftovers from lunchtime, and at the same price. It's a shame.

25/04/2026: We were delighted with our experience at this small restaurant. We were welcomed with our dog. The welcome was very pleasant and the meal delicious. Efficient cooking that focuses on the essentials with fresh, locally sourced ingredients. For starters, melt-in-your-mouth gravlax salmon, and two equally impressive and generously portioned main courses. An amazing béarnaise sauce!!! Homemade, just the way we like it, a quality rarely matched in other restaurants. (Sauces are often a sign of homemade quality and expertise.) To finish, a sweet treat: a sundae of local ice cream with caramel and whipped cream—a real delight. Writing this review makes our mouths water. 😉 Excellent value for money. Thank you both, and we wish you all the best.

I took a wine tasting course and my other half took a cooking class 😊, and we truly had a wonderful time! The pleasure of learning to cook and discovering the subtleties of wines, all in a joyful and friendly atmosphere, made for a truly magical interlude. We'll be back!

17/04/2026: A truly timeless experience in this charming and welcoming restaurant! You're greeted like family, and the food is as delicious as the setting is idyllic! Though barely visible from the road, it's well worth a stop... the homemade cheese fritters were so good that my daughter, who didn't want any, went to the kitchen to ask for more... the wild boar stew (local 😜) was melt-in-your-mouth tender... in short, as you can see, a wonderful owner and succulent local cuisine make this place an absolute must-visit!
