03/07/2026: The restaurant looks nice, the food looks good, however, the staff is very rude. We wanted to sit at a table, but the person serving us insisted we only sit at a specific table. We tried to sit at two separate tables, but they still wouldn't let us sit at that one, even though only about 20% of the tables were occupied. Terrible service! They were yelling at customers! How awful!

The live music, the platters of local produce, the excellent wine selection... but above all, the friendly atmosphere and top-notch service keep us coming back again and again. 😍

14/06/2026: Yes, but... This review, which is entirely my own, concerns a high-end establishment, or rather, an establishment that charges high prices, hence my reservations. I'm posting it for those who are lucky enough to have friends who will treat them to a 6-course tasting menu (without drinks) for a hefty 90 euros per person. We couldn't go whenever we wanted, but oh well... we went anyway. The weather was beautiful and warm, and we were in the (rather ordinary) outdoor courtyard of the restaurant with three other couples. Upon arrival, we were offered water—still or sparkling—so we ordered still water (which cost us 7 euros at the end of the meal). Then they brought us the wine list, or rather, the wine bible. I must say, we were a little taken aback by the almost endless selection of wines and their prices (about three to five times the price of a bottle). Anyway, we had a very ordinary 8-euro kir as an aperitif. Since we didn't want to pay between 8 and 18 euros for a glass of wine or 60 euros for an ordinary bottle, we ordered a 26-euro bottle from a well-known winemaker in Gascony whose wine sells for 7 euros in supermarkets. The dishes on the menu were beautifully presented and quite good, even very good (that's 15 euros each, though), but that's undeniable—it's the work of a chef. What really bothered us was that, with such a high-priced menu, we weren't offered an aperitif and wine pairings upfront. Quite frankly, the food was good, but it lacked that extra something, and I think the wine pairing was largely to blame, as was the disproportion between what should have been a memorable experience and the price.

20/07/2026: The waiter seemed to have forgotten about us, busy with his regular customers. Draft beers were fine, but when we asked for a refill, he asked if we minded if the glasses weren't rinsed?! (There weren't many people there, after all...), a simple rinse wouldn't cost anything, would it?

17/04/2026: 17-04-2026 Closed for over a month, why? Yet, a small neighborhood bar and restaurant, 4 stars in my opinion.

01/02/2026: Very good brasserie with a vintage atmosphere, the pizzas are very good and the waitress is super friendly, I recommend it.

28/06/2026: Twice is enough! The service was slow, something was always missing, we asked for bread and never received it, and the same went for the bill. We finally got up. The waitress was practically nonexistent, so we went to have dessert elsewhere. We went to get dessert there instead.

27/06/2026: Apparently, even though it's a seaside resort, after 9 pm you can't sit down to eat or drink if you're not wearing the right shoes. I was wearing sandals, by the way. It's ridiculous. Two bouncers to tell you you can't get in with those shoes. I think Café Maxime thinks it's something else. In any case, a bad atmosphere and a bad experience. My sandals were clean and new, I should add. I won't be going back; there are other, much more welcoming cafés in Sainte-Maxime, thankfully.

26/06/2026: After making a reservation in advance, we were seated in a terrible location where food service went by. The host - an older, balding gentleman, was extremely rude to my mother and tossed menus at her. When I asked why we couldn’t sit at a better table, the host switched to French, explained to me in French that it was “reserved” and refused to speak to us in English again. Unfortunately for him, he did not realize that we understand and speak French and know well how rude it is to continue to speak in French in that context. We promptly left as there is no need for rudeness. Please also note, they advertise air conditioning, but it is not really there. Avoid unless you’d like to be treated poorly.
