10/12/2025: A very pleasant meal and great service this Monday!

29/10/2025: Perfect motorway service station restaurant. I was lucky to arrive at the beginning of service, perhaps a little overwhelmed during peak hours, as I didn't see any reinforcements arrive.

03/09/2025: Coconut cake without coconut, exorbitant prices and soft and ugly pastries... but that's not the worst, sitting on the terrace a rat as big as a cat just passed by... normal! Run away!

21/08/2025: If you want flattened croissants that look like nothing, go for it. On the other hand, if you want a real puffy croissant, you'll have to pay €2.20 because it's made the old-fashioned way... a shameful process.

09/12/2025: Passing through Paris and staying nearby, we thought we'd have dinner in a nice place. Unfortunately, we stopped for an aperitif, which was served 40 minutes after our arrival. We waited, waved, and asked a waiter, but it wasn't his area and we couldn't order. In short, we arrived at 7:15 pm and left at 9:15 pm after ordering an expensive cocktail with very little alcohol... and when we paid, they asked us if we had enjoyed ourselves. After explaining, there was no discount or apology. Avoid this place.

16/02/2026: Avoid at all costs. Unpleasant staff: barely a hello, no thank you at the checkout. The waiter stays on his phone behind the counter and seems reluctant to put it down to answer customer requests. The tables and restrooms are dirty, and when you ask for the tables to be cleaned, no apology is offered for the inconvenience.

16/02/2026: I absolutely do not recommend this place. Besides having an unpleasant waiter who has absolutely no manners (no hello, no thank you), the café is filthy, there were ants on the tables, the ashtrays were full when we arrived, and the toilets were dirty. When we asked for our table to be cleaned, the waiter didn't even apologize for the state of the table and didn't change the ashtrays. The waiter was also on his phone the entire time, with his hood up and his hair down; I even found a phone in my hot chocolate!

19/01/2026: A typical Parisian café-restaurant, perfect for drinks, lunch, dinner, or breakfast. Pleasant atmosphere. Prices are a bit high, but not outrageously so. Service is polite and friendly.

24/01/2026: A very mixed experience. The owner is quite nice but seems content to just serve at the bar, without really managing the atmosphere. On the other hand, the DJ is extremely strict and unfriendly. From the moment we walked in, he bluntly imposed rules, even though the bar is small, located in the countryside, right by the road, and there were barely ten of us singing. On my last visit, he announced "no more than two songs." I sang more, but in a family setting: one song with my daughter, one with my mother. Despite this, complaints followed, and the DJ started yelling, which clearly ruined the atmosphere. It's a shame, because the concept could be fun, but the DJ's rigid and authoritarian attitude completely eliminates any sense of conviviality. We go to karaoke to relax, not to be told off like at school.

02/01/2026: Bistro in the center of Saumur. An unpretentious place, like a neighborhood bar, serving traditional home-style cooking. The duck parmentier and the croque monsieur were delicious. The portions are very generous. The manager was very friendly and did her best to communicate with us even though we don't speak French. The food took a little while to arrive, but that was perfectly reasonable considering she was in charge of the bar, the tables, the kitchen… Good value for money.

30/11/2025: This place is a disgrace! They make fun of the customers and their employees, especially the new ones. What is the world coming to?! They'll recognize themselves; they're the two oldest in the bakery. I'll never set foot in there again, nor will I give them my money, because they are truly haughty and disrespectful. Ugh! I confirm the other reviews that say the same thing. Where is the manager? Plus, their tarts are undercooked, especially the pastry. They don't taste very good... a real disgrace. And on top of that, these women are like radar guns, watching and peering everywhere. No need for security cameras, as if we were about to steal! The saleswoman serves you with her mouth full, and on top of that, she puts the chocolates on the shelves without gloves! That's completely unhygienic.

23/11/2025: This Sunday morning, I went to Villaret's for Sunday breakfast: croissants and brioche. It was 7:40 a.m. I walked through the shop; I was the only customer. The display wasn't yet set up. I was facing four saleswomen who didn't see fit to interrupt their conversation. Almost a minute passed before the youngest of them deigned to give me a half-hearted greeting. I asked for croissants and brioche. "With sugar or praline?" she asked. "Don't you have any large plain brioches?" I then inquired. The red-haired saleswoman then intervened, telling her colleague, "Wait for the large brioche, I have orders..." After two minutes, and after the saleswoman who was helping me found the right size bag for my two croissants, she asked her colleague again, I received a negative response regarding the purchase of the brioche, because there were orders... it was 7:45 a.m.! I've been a customer of this bakery for over fifty years, but this is the last straw. I left the croissants and went to Grasset in Les Halles. A well-stocked display, a smile, plain brioche. Villaret, you've definitely lost a customer.

04/02/2026: I stayed here on my journey south, and liked the place - staff, bedroom, and food -- so I booked for my return journey on 30/12. Everything went well, until I ordered my evening meal. I've never tried choucroute so I asked what the ingredients were. I always enjoy eating everything in it, so I ordered it. When it arrived, there was my a strong smell but it didn't put me off. I tried a small piece of everything - the cabbage, sausage, cooked meat - but they each tasted awful. there was a strong chemical taste in everything; it was inedible. The waitress seemed to be a trainee, and just took the full plate away without question. Another (more senior) waitress came to ask me if I wanted a dessert, so I told her I hadn't been able to eat my meal, and why. I asked whether the chef had checked my meal? The senior waitress took offence and started ranting and screaming at me, that I was trying to avoid paying for the meal, which I hadn't eaten. No attempt to check whether something had gone wrong with my meal, no concern that a returning customer was having to go to bed hungry. I had been polite and friendly, and given the staff generous tips, throughout both my stays. I couldn't believe their response. There was no sign of the owner to ask him about it, after I left the restaurant, nor when I checked out the next morning. Avoid!

01/02/2026: We went to the old Belfries today… Polish Day! Fantastic atmosphere! Excellent meal served hot with a smile from the staff… I loved it and we'll gladly go back! There were four of us and everyone agrees with me… a big thank you for this wonderful day…

31/01/2026: We went on a Monday evening dinner and the dining room was full with locals who the restaurant knew by name, definitely need reservation, authentic delicious traditional dishes like beef bourguinon which came out bubbling hot. Although we were hoping they served it with a side of pasta which is no longer the case. They did have the delicious stuffed morel mushrooms which is hard to find at this time of the year. We finished the evening with a perfectly done soufflé. Btw if you see any St. Joseph wine order it, it’s my Parisian cousin’s go to.

13/01/2026: Classy atmosphere. Classic Parisian vibes. Ordered the smoked salmon, leeks, beef bourguignon and soufle. Waiter was kind and attentive. Food was good, but the cost of the food did not meet the expectations provided. For something in the price of this restaurant, a lower cost could be found for the same quality food.

14/09/2025: Small brasserie in the shade of plane trees, in the city center. A pleasant place to have a drink and a meal. Family atmosphere and efficient service. Quality menu, I highly recommend it for a pleasant stay.

11/02/2026: Avoid the Pithiviers! It's simply awful, a disgrace compared to the other dishes. A €4 frozen meal from the supermarket is more nutritious.

13/12/2025: Very affordable price and friendly staff, but extremely slow service in the restaurant and the room smelled strongly of cigarettes.
