27/09/2026: We ate at the restaurant twice and the food was absolutely fantastic. I especially recommend the cordon bleu. The owner and staff were very friendly. If we're ever in the area again, we'll definitely visit the restaurant again!

22/09/2026: It's sometimes said that you can judge the quality of a restaurant by the cleanliness of its restrooms. It might sound silly, but at Chez L'Ami Fritz, it's true. The food is delicious, the service impeccable. Try the lamb; you won't believe it!

26/09/2026: I visited shortly after 11:00 AM, and there were no other customers. However, they told me to go up to the second floor. I wondered if there was a specific reason, but when I went up, there was no one there. I felt uneasy, but I held back and waited for service. Even after about 10 minutes, they still hadn't taken my order, so I went down to the first floor specifically to ask; only then did they say they had forgotten and finally took my order. The mussel dish wasn't bad. However, sending me, an Asian, up to the second floor when there was no one else there made me suspect racism. It seemed they found it inconvenient to have an Asian person seated where they could see them. Sure enough, when I finished my meal and went back down, white people were sitting in the first-floor seats. They had deliberately hidden me on the second floor and refused to even attend to me, despite not being busy at all due to the lack of customers. Whenever I am treated like this in Europe, I cannot shake off the unpleasant feeling. I believe there is no need to go to places that habitually practice racism. Despite the ground floor being vacant, the staff instructed me to go up to the second floor, where no one else was seated. ​After waiting for over 10 minutes without anyone coming up to take my order, I had to walk back downstairs myself. Only then did they take my order, casually claiming they had forgotten about me. ​The mussel dish was decent, but relegating an Asian customer upstairs out of sight in an empty restaurant and neglecting basic service felt like deliberate discrimination. Unsurprisingly, when I came back down after finishing my meal, the Caucasian patrons were comfortably seated across the ground floor. It felt as though they deliberately hid me away, ignoring me even though they were not busy at all. Experiencing this kind of treatment in Europe is deeply unpleasant. There is no reason to patronize an establishment that treats customers this way. ​Je suis venue chez Au Trappiste un peu après 11h, en tant que toute première cliente ; l'établissement était totalement vide. Bien que le rez-de-chaussée soit complètement inoccupé, le personnel m'a demandé de monter au premier étage, où il n'y avait absolument personne d'autre. ​Après plus de 10 minutes d'attente sans que personne ne vienne prendre ma commande, j'ai dû redescendre moi-même. Ce n'est qu'à ce moment-là qu'on a enfin pris ma commande, en prétendant simplement m'avoir oubliée. ​Les moules n'étaient pas mauvaises, mais envoyer une cliente asiatique à l'étage hors de vue dans un restaurant vide pour ensuite la négliger totalement relève d'une attitude discriminatoire. Sans surprise, quand je suis redescendue après mon repas, des clients blancs étaient installés au rez-de-chaussée. J'ai eu la nette impression d'avoir été cachée à l'étage et délaissée alors que l'établissement n'était absolument pas débordé. Subir ce genre de traitement en Europe est particulièrement désagréable. Il n'y a aucune raison de fréquenter un tel endroit.

26/09/2026: A charming and welcoming place. Fast and attentive service. Excellent crepes and local beers. The desserts are exceptional, especially the pear ice cream sundae with local seaweed liqueur. Excellent value.

22/09/2026: A very well-coordinated team. The crêpes are delicious. I had a crêpe with scallops. Simply divine. The salad is varied and attractively garnished. The price-performance ratio is absolutely fine.

There’s a “dish of the day” (no other options for food) which they offer for a fixed price and deliver with wonderful explanations. They have a great selection of French wines and gave us great recommendations. We came for a birthday dinner and were pleased with the experience in every regard!

25/08/2026: A very good restaurant and a magnificent wine cellar! The setting: it's a true restaurant with all the hallmarks, from the carefully prepared dishes and the (increasingly rare) "French-style" service, to the overall quality of the menu. It's a haven for discerning palates, where people come as much for the food as for a good bottle of wine. The wine cellar is also very well curated and expertly sourced. Quality/quantity/price ratio: average (it's not your local canteen or bistro). Ideal for a business lunch (simple and convivial), a meal with friends, or a small or large event (depending on your budget). And don't forget: the after-dinner drinks are excellent too.

20/09/2026: What a wonderful restaurant. Recommended by our cruise director while on the extended tour. There was 6 of us, each of us had a wonder meal, including starters, main meal and dessert. The lemon flan was wonderful! The owner wife is so personable.

11/09/2026: A very bad experience. Yes, it's a family-run place, but the service was slow, and you have to order everything from the start. Also, some people were served before us, those ordering appetizers, for example. We really didn't enjoy it.

16/08/2026: So conflicted about whether to even leave a review for this place. Possibly the worst dining experience we have had during our week of travelling in Spain and France... ... but that may have mostly been down to our unsophisticated pallates, and poor menu choices (v.s. other items we may have liked better). Had our choices better suited our tastes, I'm sure we would have actually had a really good experience, and that's the basis of the 3-star score. Quenelle of chicken had the texture of blamanche and an indistinct flavour profile, and the andouillette had the look, smell, taste, texture and warmth of a freshly laid turd. Both were probably 'good' - but it was just a bit unexpected. The execution of the food seemed on-point, especially e.g. the sauces (which we would expect from a Lyonnaise bouchon), it's just we didn't really enjoy the dishes. Even the desserts were a bit 'meh'. Drinks were nothing to write home about (the quality of the wine by the glass was nothing above bang-average table wine, and the AF beer was the frankly abhorrent Kronenbourg). Service was good, and the staff very friendly and obliging, though clearly busy. I would note that the food came out extremely quickly (rather too quickly), with no real break between courses. Value was very good, for authentic Lyonnaise food. Note that the excellent value Menu des Canuts is also available in the evening. The establishment seems to be going for a kind of hybrid modern/shabby vibe, and I'm not sure I fully got it. Mixed furniture, crockery etc... OK, but two of the bowls my food was served in were chipped. Tables inside were small. There are lots of people who will bang on about, say Jane Austen, when, by most objective measures, she churned-out some pretty dreary works of little literary merit. Yet there she still sits, exalted, on her pedestal. The same metaphor probably applies to Lyonnaise cuisine, if this is anything to go by. If it's your thing, though, you could certainly do worse than give this place a try. You might like it; in fact you probably will. So a mixed review, let's say.

15/08/2026: Excellent Lyonnais bistro, the service is impeccable and fast. We had the set menu with starter, main course, and dessert, and all three were a success. Absolutely worth it.

18/09/2026: Unpleasant staff, and above all, a disgusting chatte latte for €6. Extremely sweet, not creamy at all. It's a disgrace to sell it at latte prices. They're just riding the wave of trendy, English-speaking cafés in the Marais district. Go to the cafetheque next door instead.
