16/04/2026: Not bad (€4 for a glass of wine or €4.80 for St. Joseph). Good atmosphere. "Potatoes" (meaning "sautéed potatoes") + hanger steak €24. Problem: yet another restaurant that confuses "rare" and "medium-rare." 1) Thick meat (hanger steak 5cm high) ordered medium-rare, brought raw inside with 3mm of seared meat... so, ask for "medium" for medium-rare. 2) Basque chicken that I could make myself..... = a little disappointed ALL THE SAME.

27/03/2026: We went to Achour on a Friday evening. It was a group of us friends. We all loved our evening. The welcome and service were warm and friendly. We savored our couscous! Everything was perfect, no matter which couscous we ordered: flavorful vegetables, tender meat, lean merguez sausages, and delicate, fragrant meatballs. The pastries are a feast for the eyes and the palate. It's definitely a place to remember. Thank you for a wonderful time!

14/02/2026: Great experience! A good selection, good fresh products, pleasant service, and good value for money. The only downsides were some bones in the fish and the octopus being a bit too fatty for my taste, but nothing too serious. Worth trying for a good time!

05/04/2026: A few improvements to make: - Avoid pouring the last of the champagne from a bottle and then topping it up with a fresh glass; - Avoid serving the beginning of the foie gras terrine; serve a slice instead; - Incredibly long wait times (we arrived at the restaurant at noon and left at 4 p.m.); - Understaffed: for 16 occupied tables, there were only 4 people, including the chef; - Tables are a bit cramped. - The food is generally simple, and the Easter dessert (praline nest) was tasteless. Overall rating: 3

17/03/2026: A delightful culinary surprise in Maubeuge. The chef was incredibly attentive in the dining room! The atmosphere and cuisine were warm and welcoming (just like the chef).

29/04/2026: My partner, my son, and I were regular customers of Hippopotamus. We were very disappointed with the service today (April 29th). We were seated with my partner and son and waited 45 minutes without being served. During this time, people who arrived after us were served before us. The server did not come back to inform us about the status of our order or the estimated wait time. Faced with this lack of information and no idea when we would be served, we finally left the restaurant without eating. This experience was particularly disappointing, especially since we were regular customers.

14/04/2026: Lovely hotel, a bit outside the city, but still quiet and well-located. It's a manageable 2km bike ride to the center. The restaurant was closed on Sunday evening, but the owner gave us a list of other restaurants so we could enjoy the local "carpes frites". Highly recommended.

The meal was every bit as good as anything you'd find at a top restaurant, and above all, it was simple and cheerful. So you can go there with your eyes closed, but with your eyes open, it's much better to appreciate it. Thank you!

20/04/2026: They kindly explain the dishes well, and the food is delicious. It is a great value for money dining experience with great taste. The pear served as dessert was so unique and tasty. It was a flavor I’d never tasted before in my life, and it was delicious. In addition to the dishes listed on the menu, a few small extras are served.
