02/11/2025: To celebrate my mother's 96th birthday, we decided to go to La Chaumière in Villeneuve-sur-Allier. And there, what a surprise! We were greeted by the owner, smiling and charming, in her warm, country-style restaurant. Right away, even before sitting down, we already felt a bit at home! We ordered our set menu (€12) and soon after, a starter arrived: beautifully presented beef carpaccio, followed by a piece of chicken on a bed of cabbage, accompanied by mushrooms and potatoes—all absolutely delicious, perfectly seasoned, and just the right amount of spice…and a dessert of rice pudding (just like in the old days). We thought to ourselves, it's impossible to get such a meal for that price! We chatted a lot with our hostess, Sophie. She and her husband, both originally from Belgium, took over this hotel-restaurant a year ago. For us, it was a real success... We truly felt Sophie's dedication to doing everything to satisfy her customers; we were pampered, even receiving a gift for Mom's birthday! We certainly won't wait for another birthday to return to La Chaumière and encourage all readers of this message to do the same. A must-visit. Thank you, Sophie.

09/10/2025: This charming cottage with its authentic character is a must-see. The owners are exceptionally kind and welcoming. The food is excellent and beautifully presented. Breakfast is superb. A wonderful discovery. Easily accessible. Vehicle parking available.

06/09/2026: The bar provides access to a boat dock for exploring the Marais Poitevin. But what on earth are tourists doing in Coulon?! Here it's absolutely stunning and so peaceful, plus it's much more affordable: €17 instead of €24 in Coulon. We only saw three other boats and enjoyed an idyllic boat trip! I highly recommend it! They even offer "boat aperitifs": a 90-minute tour with a nice glass of wine to enjoy. 👍🏻

29/04/2026: Honestly, I don't know what to say about Jeanette's restaurant except that I'm delighted every time we eat there ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ Everything is perfect... and Frédéric is a huge asset to the restaurant!!!! Impeccable service, natural kindness, very efficient 👍👍👍👍 We ate very, very well again, and the chef delighted us!!!! You absolutely must keep them both; you have wonderful employees 🤗🤗🤗🥰🥰🥰🤗🤗 A big thank you; you don't find this kind of quality everywhere, I can confirm... and the shaded terrace is very pleasant... 20/07/2026: A great find on the way back from Saint-Nazaire to Redon! A charming little restaurant run by a lovely couple, serving generous portions of fresh, homemade food. The dining room overlooks a shaded outdoor terrace with awnings, and the meats are cooked over a wood fire. We'll be back!

25/09/2026: The little train ride was a very pleasant experience with a driver who was full of humor and very attentive and tactful towards our friend in a wheelchair (there were 50 of us). Where things went wrong was the welcome during the cruise with the captain (who supposedly worked on the Bateaux Mouches in Paris). He was awful to our friend in her wheelchair; thankfully, his staff were kind and helpful. Imagine the stress this caused our friend. I hope this gentleman never finds himself in that situation again. We had a wonderful day despite him. Hats off to the staff who made us forget about him. This is how one person can ruin and tarnish the reputation of an organization, and I'm not even mentioning the way he treated our group leader.

20/09/2026: A lovely boat trip on the Vilaine river with its wild banks, interesting food but it's a shame there wasn't more whisky in stock; we only got the dregs of the bottles and no replacements...

09/09/2026: Perfect for our cycling stopover! Simple but pleasant room, very friendly and warm welcome, truly delicious food, and a generous breakfast. We highly recommend it.

07/09/2026: I opted to order à la carte rather than a set menu, figuring the portion would be a decent size. I ordered the Bresse chicken with cream sauce. On my plate, I found a ridiculously small leg accompanied by a few tiny pieces of vegetables and mini potato pancakes. Everything was tiny! The excuse I was given was that Bresse chicken is expensive…

29/09/2026: I recently bought the Alençon apple as a pastry (a trompe l'oeil apple) for €3.50, only to end up with a meringue covered in fondant. It's shameful to sell that.

24/09/2026: We received a terrible welcome on this beautiful September weekend! The terrace was packed with people enjoying drinks and food in the late summer sunshine, so we decided to wait on a nearby bench, planning to get up and rush in when the time came. 😅 Just then, two men passing by snatched our seats right in front of us. It was rather funny, actually. In hindsight, it wasn't a big deal. Oh well, too bad for us. Even though the waiters could see us waiting... But the waiter smiled at us with a... well... I'm still wondering if his smile meant "tough luck," "not quick enough," or "too bad for you!" After exchanging a few words, my husband and I decided to leave. Since parking was only allowed for 30 minutes, and with the time almost up, we decided to give up on our desired drink and buy our son, who had been waiting for a few minutes, a nice ice cream to go. We approached the counter to see the available flavors, and the waitress told us the ice cream stand was closed... there was no indication of that. No curtain, no freezer still open, no tubs open, nothing... not even a greeting! Disappointment. Really bad luck, I think. 6:08 PM, no more ice cream available?? We left, explaining that, seeing us waiting around the patio for over 20 minutes, they could have perhaps made a small gesture... Tables and chairs were put away. They could have offered to let us wait 5 minutes to be seated. They could have offered to let us set up three chairs and a table ourselves. Also, since the ice cream freezer was open, why not get out a spoon to serve my son yet another scoop of the day? Incomprehensible! Shooting customers away. 6:08 PM was perhaps a closing time, I don't know. But what a lack of tact towards a customer who comes to eat or drink! What a strange team! I never leave such negative comments. I'm not saying this place isn't usually welcoming, but perhaps we were just unlucky.

21/09/2026: Ideal for a quick meal or a coffee/snack break. Very well located by the sea. The terrace is lovely. The service is quick and courteous. I recommend it.

02/10/2026: A superb evening spent at this restaurant, with beautifully presented dishes and superb flavors, accompanied by impeccable and friendly service! The only slight drawback was a lack of background music, but that's just a personal opinion. A superb establishment that deserves a visit for a guaranteed good time!

19/09/2026: We had a wonderful time. The cuisine was original and refined; we indulged ourselves. The calf's head with chanterelles and new potatoes, and the roasted sea bass were perfect. The service was pleasant and friendly, a bit young, but could learn some way to improve. Ask for a table on the terrace if the weather is nice.

31/10/2026: A truly excellent restaurant! A seaside restaurant where we enjoyed delicious and refined dishes. The service was very quick, and the servers were incredibly friendly. It's the perfect place to spend a wonderful time with family in a pleasant setting. The main courses and desserts were truly superb, and the bill was reasonable. We'll definitely be back!

29/08/2026: The food was very good, however, the service needs improvement. Despite an order error, a waiter spilling ice cream on a customer behind us, and some unfriendly staff, the team is young, and we left a €5 tip on a bill of almost €160 for two adults and three children. I think that's reasonable, considering service is included in France. Well, no! Not according to the waiters, who barely turned their backs and didn't hesitate to criticize the small tip. So be it, if we return, it will be €0, and we will demand that the order error be corrected because being nice gets you nowhere. It's a shame for the kitchen staff, as my rating doesn't reflect their work.

27/10/2026: Impeccable atmosphere and service. Ideal location. However, the prices... Honestly, catastrophic :) 7 euros for a café crème, you'd think you were on the Champs-Élysées! Once was enough. What a shame :) Good luck to the staff though, it seems like a lovely establishment. Update following the establishment's response: yes, I know the prices are displayed, thank you :) honestly, for that price, I was hoping for a large cup... But it's a café crème in a small mug. Yet, you're paying coffee shop prices! I'm not the only one complaining about the prices in your comments: question yourselves instead of hiding behind the "it's on the menu" argument (thank goodness!)... ;) As I said: once was enough. The experience is good, but the prices are out of touch with reality, especially considering the location.
