02/11/2025: To celebrate my mother's 96th birthday, we decided to go to La Chaumière in Villeneuve-sur-Allier. And there, what a surprise! We were greeted by the owner, smiling and charming, in her warm, country-style restaurant. Right away, even before sitting down, we already felt a bit at home! We ordered our set menu (€12) and soon after, a starter arrived: beautifully presented beef carpaccio, followed by a piece of chicken on a bed of cabbage, accompanied by mushrooms and potatoes—all absolutely delicious, perfectly seasoned, and just the right amount of spice…and a dessert of rice pudding (just like in the old days). We thought to ourselves, it's impossible to get such a meal for that price! We chatted a lot with our hostess, Sophie. She and her husband, both originally from Belgium, took over this hotel-restaurant a year ago. For us, it was a real success... We truly felt Sophie's dedication to doing everything to satisfy her customers; we were pampered, even receiving a gift for Mom's birthday! We certainly won't wait for another birthday to return to La Chaumière and encourage all readers of this message to do the same. A must-visit. Thank you, Sophie.

09/10/2025: This charming cottage with its authentic character is a must-see. The owners are exceptionally kind and welcoming. The food is excellent and beautifully presented. Breakfast is superb. A wonderful discovery. Easily accessible. Vehicle parking available.

23/05/2026: Stopped here with a friend for coffee whilst on a motorbike tour. The owner is supper lovely and could not have been more welcoming.

07/05/2026: A fantastic find! The atmosphere is warm and inviting, the service impeccable, and the entire team is incredibly attentive. The dishes were delicious, beautifully presented, and prepared with fresh ingredients. Special mention goes to the desserts, which were amazing. You can feel the passion in the kitchen and the attention to detail. Excellent value for money. I will definitely be back and highly recommend it!

09/06/2026: We were five friends on a cycling trip, and we arrived in a downpour. But once we got to the bakery, our spirits lifted. The welcome was very friendly, and the snacks were excellent. We apologized for getting the floor wet, but no one said anything. We were offered a delicious little brioche, and as we were leaving, the owner brought us two bottles of mineral water for our water bottles. "Sir, we thank you for this thoughtful gesture," he said. Excellent place, I highly recommend it.

03/06/2026: The sandwich bread was undercooked, and the chocolate biscuit was overcooked and hard. The creamy flan tasted rancid. The sandwich shop's price, which was poorly displayed, was quite high, making for a rather unpleasant experience. We won't be going back!

21/06/2026: I loved it, but I should have chosen a different dessert. The rest was perfect! The atmosphere was very charming, like a flea market/cabinet of curiosities 🙂 P.S.: Remember to book in advance 😉

16/06/2026: We came for an aperitif before lunch, but given the price of the aperitif – 10 euros for a Perrier lemon served by the glass!? (while on neighboring tables the small closed bottle of Perrier was clearly visible) – and a half-lemon drink, 10 euros, this seemed expensive to us... so we left... we had been here before and we had never had this feeling of being ripped off on price and quality.

01/07/2026: We went to the restaurant area, the waitress ignored us, and the service was very slow. Her colleague didn't clean the table. Then, they criticized us when we tried to order.

29/06/2026: Avoid: coffee that's been sitting for several days, cold milk that's been sitting for several days, and expired sandwiches.

09/06/2026: A stop (dinner) during our cycling trip in Deux-Sèvres. A very warm welcome, excellent food, and efficient service. We had a wonderful time. Highly recommended!

09/06/2026: A quality restaurant with efficient and friendly service. The daily set menu, featuring three courses, offers remarkable value for money (€20). A must-try!

14/07/2026: We've been coming here every summer for at least 10 years.... Friendly and funny waiter. We really like it.

14/06/2026: Passing through the area, we stopped at this restaurant because of its waterside terrace. We thoroughly enjoyed the fried carp and perch, which were boneless and incredibly tender. The welcome and service were excellent. Thank you! 😃

20/05/2026: Since the change of ownership, the quality and service have completely declined. It's become deplorable. They sell you a salad for €18 with very few ingredients. A real tourist trap! When you mention it to the manager, he simply tells you not to come back! The overall atmosphere is fake and forced. Go spend your money elsewhere; this place is no longer worth it.

12/09/2025: For the price I paid I was expecting a decent meat quality, the meat quality was very disappinting though. Everything else was great. The cooking of such a bad steak partly made up for it.

20/02/2026: I didn't enjoy my meal at all, as the dish made both my partner and me sick! I think the owner was intrusive, constantly asking for feedback every three minutes, which made it impossible for us to enjoy our meal! The toilets were extremely dirty! We thought we were going to have a relaxing weekend, but instead, we had a terrible one. I definitely don't recommend it! Despite everything, thank you to the waitress.
