29/06/2025: A wonderful discovery. Friendly welcome from both the owner and the staff. Good advice on food and wine selection. Meals were taken on the terrace, quiet, shaded, and cool. The dishes are tasty, delicate, well-prepared, and in acceptable portions. We enjoyed an excellent homemade foie gras and Rossini beef fillet, and I opted for the daily special: peeled lobster on a bed of artichokes and strawberry sabayon, a delight. A great place to remember. Lounge-style background music.

08/07/2025: One word: outstanding. From the very beginning, everything was seamless — starting with the ease of the reservation system. The restaurant is located in a charming seaside town, and it beautifully embraces its historical roots. Being right by the water adds a magical touch, but the interior is just as captivating. The atmosphere inside is warm and full of character. The vintage photographs hanging on the walls are simply beautiful — and after reading about the restaurant’s history in the menu, seeing those photos brings the whole story to life. It’s like stepping into a living memory, where past and present come together in the most elegant way. The menu is thoughtful and well-curated, and you can tell great care goes into how each dish is prepared and cooked. The flavors were absolutely on point — every bite was memorable. The service was equally impressive: attentive, friendly, and professional from start to finish. I’ve been thinking hard, but I genuinely can’t find a single flaw. It was simply perfect in every way.

06/07/2025: My family was so excited to eat at La Mere Germaine based on reviews and word-of-mouth in various Facebook groups. Unfortunately, our experience was not good. While we did like the location by the sea in Villefranche, the food and the service were severely lacking. The waiter completely forgot to bring my husband’s drink; we never received it. One of my children ordered a burger from the kids’ menu, and we requested the meat to be cooked “à point” for medium (medium rare would also have been ok), and the burger was cooked beyond well done and was awful. The first appetizer arrived, and then my daughter’s meal arrived. She was the only one with food, and we waited quite a while for the second appetizer. By the time our main courses arrived, my daughter was done with her dinner. The timing was so poor. The ceviche appetizer was ok, but the lobster ravioli appetizer was a (bad) joke for the quantity and price. Not to mention that the ravioli itself didn’t taste very good. The main courses were disappointing as well. We’re foodies and have dined at excellent restaurants throughout Paris and the French Riviera. We didn’t have one bad meal—until we dined at this restaurant. Nice and Villefranche have so many restaurants that are better, and some are also less expensive. I happily pay a lot for good food and service, and I received neither. I surmise that La Mere Germaine is surviving based on its history and reputation, but the actual experience is a let down for sure. I would recommend going elsewhere.

The service was impeccable, attentive, and warm, making the experience even more enjoyable. As for the venue, it's absolutely incredible, full of charm and elegance, perfect for a memorable evening. I highly recommend it!

17/12/2024: The food was very tasty and you get a lot for the price. I had the frog legs and the mussels with fries (both for the first time). I can only recommend both dishes. In addition, the staff was very attentive and friendly. Overall, a very great experience that I would definitely repeat.

17/09/2024: We chose this restaurant because we always prefer to try out the local cuisine. We didn't have a reservation, so we tried our luck and waited just before they opened. The owner welcomed us in despite not having a reservation on a Saturday evening and let us choose any table. As soon as we sat down he was extremely friendly and gave us time to look at the menu. I have to say this was probably the nicest experience we've ever had in terms of service. He first asked what we would like to eat, so that he could pair the perfect wine for the meal. I have to admit I'm not an expert when it comes to wine, but he was so engaging he has given me the confidence to try more styles, especially when it comes to red wine. We went for the pate with crusty bread as a starter and that proved delicious. Our mains which was steak and chips turned out full of flavour and as dessert we went for the classic apple tart and coffee. All in all the staff were fantastic and we never felt rushed or ignored and everything about the place highlights why it's so nice to eat out on the continent. Merci Beaucoup Le Millesime!

06/09/2024: Très belle carte des vins. La proposition est généreuse et la personne au service est connaisseur. Service un petit long mais il était seul ce qui peut s’expliquer. Décor sympathique, peu de place à l’intérieur. Réservation conseiller. attention cependant en ce faisant plaisir la note peut vite montée. Et petit bémol tout de même à la qualité des pièces de viande légèrement déçu par l’entrecôte. À reconfirmer lors d’une prochaine visite.

26/08/2024: Locale molto semplice (bar tabacchi con annessa sala da pranzo) con un enorme camino con una brace meravigliosa. Il cuoco è uno spettacolo da vedere: prepara tutto sulla brace in modo molto professionale. Il suo sorriso e la sua simpatia sono coinvolgenti, così come la cortesia e la gentilezza della signora che serve ai tavoli. Da non perdere

23/07/2024: Nous y revenons pour les grenouilles qui sont excellentes. Le foie gras et le poulet à la crème sont top. Les entrées sont copieuses. L'accueil et le service est agréable, avec une serveuse active et à l'écoute. Très bon rapport qualité/prix.

01/07/2024: Nous étions déjà venus presque par hasard dans cet établissement et sommes revenus car satisfaits. Juste une petite remarque, dans le menu à 47 €, la salade de la mer, excellente, mais avec 2 gambas et 2 petites noix de St Jacque, cela me paraît assez léger. L'assiette est bien garnie, mais avec beaucoup de salade pour faire du volume. Les grenouilles sont excellentes, cuites juste à point dans un joli beurre persillé et servies généreusement, le top. Pour le reste, rien à dire, le service est agréable, avec une gentille serveuse qui s'active et qui est à l'écoute. Bon établissement, à revoir peut être la générosité de la salade de la mer. Néanmoins pour les grenouilles, nous reviendrons.
