16/04/2026: A superb place our friends introduced us to on Sunday evening. The portions are generous and the prices are very reasonable for such high quality. The menu makes you want to try everything. The service from the two ladies was quick and friendly. The dining room is lovely. We'll definitely be back (after a good hike to enjoy a good meal, haha). 08/04/2026: The best thing about Le Carreau is the portion size. First time in Bordeaux where we could not finish the mains and decided to skip dessert. And the overall taste of everything we had was good, very nice surprise on the warm bread they served us. Unfortunately, I think our expectations were higher. The table we were sat on was right next to the toilet with almost complete lack of personal space vs the next table. Wine selection (by the glass) was quite poor, and the food while overall tasty was very ordinary. The croquettes for starters were very floury, the confit duck leg was drier than expected, and the artichoke carpaccio was just an artichoke from a jar, flavoured with cumin which felt too overpowering. We also had oysters and beef tartare which were quite good actually. Disappointing to not have clean pair of cutlery between meals. Out waiter was very friendly and helpful though waited 20 min for the bill.

We had a wonderful meal; the dishes were delicious and generous.
The staff were friendly, responsive, and attentive.
The service was perfectly timed.
Ideally located by the sea, with a heated terrace and attractive decor, we highly recommend it and will definitely keep the address in mind for a future visit.
15/04/2026: We stumbled upon this restaurant on a whim and received a fantastic welcome from the team, even though there were nine of us at the table without a reservation. The meal was excellent, with a wide selection of à la carte and set menus. The dishes are homemade (even the fries! 😁😁), the fish and shellfish are incredibly fresh, locally sourced, and truly delicious. The cocktails are generous, and the portions are very hearty, including the mussels. I highly recommend this superb restaurant, which would become my regular spot if I lived here. Thank you to the Espadrille team for this wonderful evening. The warm welcome and explanation of the products' origins really made us want to try everything. Even children will be delighted with the various children's menu options (pizza, fries, etc.). Return in April 2026: Still top-notch, fresh dishes, an evolving menu, and consistently excellent service. Go without hesitation and enjoy your meal!

09/07/2025: Amazing view, top-notch service, and fabulous food. We had the tomato burrata for starters—it was very, very tasty, as were the snails. The steak for main course was also very good, and for dessert, the chocolate mousse. Although it's in a tourist area, it's really not expensive. The price/performance ratio is absolutely perfect.

24/03/2026: We arrived in a state best described as “respectably peckish” and left floating somewhere between delirium and enlightenment - somewhat financially less well off, yes, but spiritually fortified and possibly in love with a blue lobster.
It all began with a Negroni (mine, bitter as regret but twice as rewarding) and a Kir (hers, charming and deceptively cheerful).
Then: a trio of amuse-gueules, clearly crafted by someone with a PhD in anticipation-building. Just as I began calculating how many of those it would take to equal dinner, the amuse-bouche arrived—a sliver of tuna resting on a base of cucumber that tasted like summer. Subtle, elegant, perfectly balanced.

Act I
Next came the lobster - or rather, a duet of lobster.
One, gently wood-fired and lounging beside white peach, basil, and fennel. A dish dancing between sweetness and smoke.
The other, a ravioli so delicate it could have doubled as haute couture, floating in a foam that whispered of cream, seashores, and some light French sorcery.
Act I played out like a duet - each part elevating the other in perfect harmony.

Act II
A three-part fish opera:
First, grilled green beans in a smoked yogurt sauce - a lesson in how simple can still be sublime.
Next: the tuna itself, seared and served over a spicy sauce tinged with habanero. Alongside, a small tartare so fresh it made my life shimmer a little brighter for just a short moment.
By this point, I wasn’t eating - I was leading a one-man rescue mission, bread in hand, determined to liberate every last trace of bean sauce before it made a clean getaway across the porcelain.

Act III
The Kintoa pork followed - succulent, beautifully lacquered, served with summer truffle, sweet onion, and a deep, earthy sauce that begged for more wine. We obliged, of course.
At this stage, I should note that the wine pairings were not only excellent and generous - but also largely responsible for my rising sense of joy and general goodwill toward the universe.

Act IV
Then came dessert - because what better way to conclude a culinary saga than with sorbet, lemon granita, black bean cream (don’t ask, just surrender), and ice cream made from blue poppy seeds and a sense of wonder?
All this accompanied by Éclipse, a sparkling wine that tasted like a Nordic summer night - brief, luminous, and utterly enchanting.

And then, bliss.
Petits fours arrived like tiny edible punctuation marks. Espresso was served. Someone poured something amber into a glass shaped like a poem. And for a few luminous minutes, time stopped caring about itself.

The verdict:
It was a journey from sea to land, a beautifully choreographed story of contrasting flavors and colors. Every dish was a new chapter, every sip a supporting verse.
Three young mademoiselles conducted the evening with wit and grace, ensuring everything flowed with quiet precision.
It was a dinner to remember, firmly placing Biarritz on our culinary map forever.
