We had pike-perch with Riesling sauce and pike dumplings. We hadn't tried either of these dishes before and can highly recommend them at this restaurant.

10/07/2026: A very pleasant brasserie with a neighborhood bistro feel. A varied selection of dishes to suit all tastes. The meats are very good and the dishes are prepared with care. Excellent value for money compared to similar establishments nearby. Beautiful and large terrace. The staff is very attentive, which is very pleasant.

Thank you to the sommelier for the perfect wine pairing; I've rarely experienced such a perfect match between wine and food. I absolutely loved the tomato appetizer (the best tomatoes I've ever eaten, not too acidic), the turbot (perfectly cooked with an extraordinary sauce), and the strawberry dessert (the pistachio crème brûlée and strawberry flavors were perfect). 21/09/2026: I usually enjoy going to Brasserie du Général, but I hadn't been for a long time and was a little disappointed: the food was plentiful, but the starter was bland, the perch fillets were a bit dry and tasteless, and the peach tart was completely tasteless. The staff weren't very friendly, even though there were only a few tables to manage.

12/09/2026: I had a table at lunchtime, the managers are amazing! The meal was excellent! Very generous portions, especially for the price! The view is absolutely stunning too!

08/09/2026: A typical inn in a pretty hilltop village. The portions are generous and the menus varied. Plan a climb to the castle ruins for the view and to work up an appetite! Luckily, we had opted for half-board and slept in a cool room.

21/08/2026: I read all of the previous reviews and was exciting on going but was I was surprised at the “ pushy” server . I noticed a table next to us walk out as they felt the vibe and decided to leave after they were told that they did not order “ enough “ . I have to say I ( we) managed to get past the aggressive/ pushy behavior to still enjoy our evening . It is a-shame as the restaurant is perfectly located and has a nice authentic feel plus the food was outstanding. We shared the the shrimp / lobster appetizer which was tasty and beautifully presented . I had the octopus which was to die for and my wife had the lamb which was outstanding . We had the wine that our waiter “ pushed “ which was on the higher end but very good . Again, I want to emphasize if you are expecting a welcoming warm experience then Franchin should not be your choice . If you can look past that and just focus on the food , you will be fine .

19/08/2026: Booked a table for 8pm on my last night in Nice. Sat down, ordered a beer and a Coke (the Coke was to have with my meal), and only then was I told the two dishes I’d come for were sold out (2/3 of the meat options, at the beginning of evening service…). Nothing mentioned when I booked, nothing when I was seated. Since the Coke hadn’t been touched and I’d only ordered it to go with food, I asked if they’d take it off the bill, to be told ‘If you order it, you pay for it.’ Kitchens run out of things - that is fine. But not telling anyone until they’ve sat down and ordered, then arguing over a soft drink isn’t great. This is about principle, not money. Paid up and (very luckily) managed to get a reservation elsewhere.

12/09/2026: Once again, I was pleasantly surprised by this superb establishment. Hotel and restaurant in the heart of Combres (Eure-et-Loir). The welcome was warm, as was the service. The menu is very simple, but the dishes are amazing! The starter, main course, snack, cheese, and dessert were all excellent, especially since they were made with fresh ingredients. I highly recommend it! 😊🤗🤗 Best of luck to the manager who is going the extra mile to satisfy his customers.
