27/04/2026: Shady pricing and “creative” math!! ​I’m pretty sure overcharging is institutionalized HERE. I paid without questioning but noticed a 50% markup on our bill. I asked out of curiosity and the staff cycled through three different excuses when I asked why: ​The Time: First, they claimed it was after 6:00 PM (even though we asked for the bill before then). Happy hours goes up to 8 p.m.!! ​The Size: When I pointed out Happy Hour lasts until 8:00 PM, they claimed they gave us "large glasses"... something never mentioned on the menu or during ordering. ​The Price List: The manager then tried to show me the "standard" price in the menu, only to realize the menu actually matched the lower price I was defending. ​After three contradictory stories, he finally handed back some (not all) of the cash. They didn't even blink or apologize, which makes me think this is just part of their "culture." Check your receipt carefully. 15/04/2026: Another excellent meal, very good quality and inexpensive. Small restaurant, 28 seats max. Fresh ingredients, original dishes, good wine selection, relaxed atmosphere. Reservations recommended.

31/03/2026: My experience at this establishment was average. The service was good, and the staff were welcoming and smiling. As for my meal, I chose the burger. It was good, but nothing extraordinary, and for €20, I found it a bit pricey. Being a crème brûlée lover, my dessert choice was very quick, but what a disappointment... The crème brûlée was bland, with almost no vanilla flavor, and its texture was far too firm. I was really disappointed by the dessert.

07/04/2026: The head waitress was very good, however, she was too authoritarian and this bothered the customers a bit on Sunday evening. Some training would be good, but otherwise, a top-notch experience, as usual in the butcher shops we visit on vacation, as they are a reliable choice for the quality of their products. Thank you!

22/04/2026: Last night we came to eat at the citadel, from the amuse-bouche to the dessert the whole meal was excellent, the service was top-notch.

23/04/2026: The service was fairly quick, but the wait for dessert was quite long, 45 minutes, while other tables that arrived after us had already left.

21/04/2026: Nice little restaurant, the food is good, the mussels with Roquefort are always delicious. One small negative point: the mojito lacked garnish and therefore flavor. Otherwise, it was perfect.

29/04/2026: We were disappointed with the Welsh rarebit. It was lumpy and watery. The mustard seemed to have been mixed into the batter rather than sprinkled on top of the bread.

29/04/2026: I ate there today with my partner, around 1 p.m. The waitress was lovely and gave us great advice on our choices of main courses and appetizers, in addition to welcoming us with a very cheerful attitude. The dishes were very good and served in generous portions. I recommend it!

29/03/2026: What a delightful experience! 😊 Having come to celebrate a family birthday, I must admit I wasn't disappointed by my first visit to the Auberge du Vieux Château. From the slice of foie gras to the array of desserts, including the veal rump with shiitake mushrooms, the quality was exceptional, both in the food itself and in the preparation, presentation, and service. 🧑‍🍳 The staff was very friendly and courteous. We were seated without a wait. Some dishes seemed to be taking a while, but considering the number of guests, the wait was actually very reasonable. 😌 The menu is designed to avoid long hesitation: two set menus at two different prices, but still plenty of choice to discover new flavors or indulge in a familiar dish. 😊 Now let's talk about the prices: considering everything mentioned above, as well as the decor, cleanliness, and upkeep of the premises, the bill is very reasonable. Although the establishment's "class" seems geared towards special occasions, I recommend the Auberge du Vieux Château without hesitation. Personally, I would gladly return. 😊

02/04/2026: We were hiking the GR53 and stayed here overnight. Very friendly welcome and a great room. The bathroom is a bit dated, but everything was very clean. Dinner and breakfast were ample and delicious. Highly recommended! 👍🏻

25/04/2026: A very pleasant welcome, everyone was smiling, the dining room is truly original, the service impeccable, and the food a delight: superb veal andouillette... an absolutely perfect iced verbena dessert... the value for money is excellent... we were passing through Le Puy-en-Velay and I'm so glad I chose L'Écu d'Or... thank you to the whole team and congratulations on the quality of your work.

21/04/2026: In fact, there's nothing to complain about: everything was perfect! The food was excellent and the value for money unbeatable (24 euros for a starter, main course, and dessert, including an amuse-bouche), the service was incredibly efficient, warm, and friendly, and the vaulted stone dining room was magnificent. A truly memorable experience that should serve as an example to many restaurants! I can't wait for my next trip to Le Puy to go back.

05/04/2026: Excellent experience! The products were very fresh and of high quality; you can really taste the care that goes into the kitchen. Excellent value for money. The welcome was warm and the staff very pleasant. The atmosphere is friendly and makes you want to come back. Thank you for the tips on how to get perfectly white meringues :-) ! I highly recommend it!

28/04/2026: Restaurant review: Very beautiful venue, very good service too. The sommelier and wine consultant were also very good. The plates were really beautifully presented and served on very elaborate tableware. Regarding the food, it was very good but not exceptional (for a Michelin-starred restaurant). For example, the roasted celeriac could have been more elaborate. I find it a bit simple for a Michelin-starred plate to arrange celeriac and a piece of beef with a jus that could have been more robust. Otherwise, the work on other products like the duck hearts is really well done (even if it might not please everyone). A positive point is the dessert, which was truly superior (it was an apple dessert in my memory), prepared in several shapes and textures, and it was very balanced.

19/04/2026: Seven-course service. The dining room is original and very charming. The table is very spacious, which is great for feeling comfortable. The furniture is of excellent quality. The staff is truly exceptional. No complaints whatsoever. The sommelier is incredible and introduced us to a wine we're now fans of :) The quality of the food is excellent. A very good restaurant in every respect. The Michelin star is well deserved. Congratulations to everyone for your hard work and dedication! 🙏🏻
