26/05/2026: Paradise! It's impossible to pass by this marvel without stopping. You'll find everything: a restaurant, a crêperie, a souvenir shop, and you can visit the park and the vegetable garden. After two hours, you'll leave with your eyes full of memories.

02/07/2026: Unfortunately, this restaurant is no longer what it used to be... The prices, however, haven't changed. Paying for what we ate yesterday is no longer acceptable; the prices urgently need to be reviewed because the restaurant has lost its class and quality. The starter was tasteless. The main course consisted of mashed potatoes served like in a school cafeteria, in a bowl with no flavor or color, and the sauces were even worse. It was very difficult to eat a €30 dish of such poor quality. The restaurant where we used to have such good times is no more... The service was unfortunately sloppy, with a waitress who confused squid with canelés and couldn't explain the menu to us. The table, once with a tablecloth and lovely decor, is no longer there; now it's a very basic brasserie table. In short, the garden remains beautiful, but you shouldn't eat there anymore.

From the welcome to the ambiance, both inside and out, not to mention their extensive menu and the impeccable service of their Guinness. Games are available, in addition to darts and billiards. In short, a must-visit every time I'm in Saint-Étienne.

10/07/2026: A cosy and beautifully decorated suit just at the foot of the cathedral. You open the window and have the feeling you can just reach for the cathedral. Delicious breakfast, friendly and forthcoming personell. Lots of good restaurants around the location, 2-3 minutes walk.

11/05/2026: A large, charming house, ideally located at the foot of the cathedral. Our room was very comfortable and beautifully decorated (the bathroom was magnificent). The owners are very friendly and helpful. However, I deducted a star for the breakfast, which was disastrous (except for the homemade jam and freshly squeezed orange juice). The pastries and bread were mass-produced, the hot chocolate was microwaved, etc. A real shame.

In our experience: very poor value for money, chaotic and slow service, only one toilet without a seat… I understand it's a special day and the staff might be overwhelmed, but in that case, why are the prices of dishes and set menus 50% higher than neighboring restaurants?

20/10/2026: Aggressive and unpleasant waiter. We mentioned to each other that it was raining. He said, "Well, yes, rain makes you wet." The other waiter told us to take shelter. He said, "Luckily, not all customers are like you."

06/09/2026: A very bad experience. I had already dined at this restaurant and had very fond memories of it: good food, a beautiful setting, and a pleasant atmosphere. It was precisely for this reason that I chose it to celebrate my birthday with my family and friends. I had booked online for 14 people, the maximum capacity offered. Since an additional guest was able to join us, I called the day before. After checking with the manager, I was told we could come as a group of 15. The next day, we received an email confirming the reservation for 14 people. An employee tried to contact us around 5 p.m. We called back about an hour before our reservation to confirm our attendance and remind them that we had agreed to the possibility of a 15th person. The manager on duty that evening had clearly not received the information. Instead of simply acknowledging a communication breakdown within her team, she addressed me in a curt and condescending tone, as if I were trying to impose a request that had already been approved by her own manager. She criticized us for not answering her call, even though the reservation had been confirmed by email that morning and we were actually calling back. After needlessly straining the situation, she finally offered the only reasonable solution: to come and organize ourselves there if there were indeed 15 of us. This is what should have been said from the start. In the end, there were 14 of us. Most of my guests were present and seated on time, with two people having been delayed by traffic. No sooner had the guests been seated than a waiter announced, "Orders will be ready in 15 minutes." It wasn't a welcome, but an order. The tone immediately created a chill and made it clear that our group was being treated more like a chore than a table of customers. And if they were going to speak to us like that, they should at least have respected the promised timeframe: our orders weren't taken 15 minutes later. When the two latecomers finally arrived, our dishes were just starting to be served. No one asked for their orders to be prioritized. We simply asked the waiter if he could take them when he was available. His response: "I have other things to do." I have rarely heard such contempt expressed so openly in a restaurant. I was especially ashamed in front of my guests: I had invited them to an establishment that I had personally chosen and recommended, only to see them treated as if they were bothering the staff. One of my guests had to get up and remind the waiter herself of the basic rules of respect for other customers. He eventually apologized, but that didn't erase the remark he made in front of the entire table. Unfortunately, the food didn't redeem the experience. On my previous visit, I had thoroughly enjoyed the thiéb and its rich flavors. This time, the chicken in my mafé was very dry, as were the kebabs I tried. The plantains were so overripe they had an unpleasantly mushy texture. Only the fish, pastels, and cod fritters were truly enjoyable. The problem, therefore, isn't a minor delay or an isolated blunder, but rather a cumulative effect: disorganization, an internal communication error blamed on the customer, a frosty reception, and a waiter's disdain. A restaurant's reputation doesn't excuse it from disregarding basic rules of professionalism and respect. We came to celebrate a birthday and spend our money, not to be the punching bag for staff irritated by the presence of their own customers. In its current state, I will not be returning to Waly-Fay. I would not recommend this establishment for a birthday or group booking: no one should have to pay to be treated as if they were a nuisance. (An experience clearly shared in other reviews)

28/08/2026: Really great food, super flagrant and full of soul. Had the best server his name was John/Jean such attentive and warm service. Cant wait to come back when I’m next in Paris. ❤️
