Sunday December 8, we reserved a table at the Aux Fines Herbes restaurant in Épinal to celebrate my grandmother's birthday. This moment, which should have been festive, turned into a real nightmare, ruined by the deplorable and unacceptable attitude of the person in charge (an elderly woman who we assume to be the boss).
As soon as we arrived, we were seated on a table of 6 for a group of 7 people, forcing my grandmother, the guest of honor, to sit uncomfortably at the end of the table. First misstep.
When taking an order, the situation deteriorates quickly:
• My mother kindly asks if my 13-year-old sister can have pasta instead of vegetables to accompany her sliced chicken. The manager's response? A dry, contemptuous and humiliating comment, like: “If you start changing the dishes, we’re not finished!”, all accompanied by an icy look. Is this how we treat customers?
• A member of my family asks for a combination between the €30 and €45 menus, specifying that he will pay the higher price without problem. Once again, she shows her exasperation and inability to adapt to simple requests, as if it were a crime to want to personalize a meal.
But the worst happened with my dish: a duck breast, inedible and rubbery. After tasting it, my mother confirmed my feelings. When I politely point out the problem, the manager, instead of showing empathy or looking for a solution, arrogantly rebuffs me. She insists that “the whole kitchen has tasted the duck breast” and that it is “normal,” adding that I don’t know what a duck breast is and should learn. She shoves the menu under my nose, forces me to choose another dish in a hurry, and just stands there, visibly exasperated.
But it doesn't stop there:
• She comes back several times to tell me that the duck breast was perfect, as if she had something to prove. My mother intervenes to confirm that there was indeed a problem, but she refuses to listen to reason and persists with a condescending and aggressive attitude.
• My little sister found a gnat in her fruit salad. Exhausted by this hostile atmosphere, we did not even dare to report it, fearing a new humiliating scene.
Objectively speaking, the rest of the food was OK, but that in no way compensates for the terrible atmosphere created by this lady, incapable of handling the slightest request or comment with professionalism.
Finally, as she leaves, the lady has the nerve to bring up this duck story again, claiming that “everything would have been perfect if I hadn’t bothered everyone”. Seriously ? This obsession is beyond comprehension.
We paid around €400 for this meal, and yet we were treated like nothing. What should have been a moment of joy for my grandmother was ruined by the intolerable attitude of this manager, clearly incapable of supporting her customers. Such a person clearly no longer has a place in the restaurant business. If she can't stand the slightest request or comment, it's high time she retired and made way for someone more competent and respectful.
Between the cold welcome, the unbearable arrogance and the total lack of professionalism, this restaurant is a disgrace to the profession. We will never set foot here again and we will make sure everyone around us knows about this disastrous experience.
Word of advice: stay away from this place, even if the food is ok, you deserve an overall pleasant experience.

14/09/2024: Dining at 114 was definitely an experience. The ambiance was magnificent. From the flowers painted on the walls to the golden columns, the intimate space coddled each diner. We began with magnificent pastry twists that were so buttery and flaky they made a mess but we wanted to collect each crumb so as not to miss a bit. From then on each morsel was delectable. The fish, lamb chops and sweetbreads all were magnificent with a beautiful presentation and perfect accompaniment. The chocolates that ended our meal were heaven in every nibble. This truly is dining at its finest.
